Someone quote me? :D *puppy eyes*
Enjoy the feeling my friend, it never seems to diminish (at least not for me).

I rarely post. I don't take any issue with the Escapist as a forum, I just find forums in general are full of people who aren't listening but just waiting for their turn to speak.
Thats pretty much what I do I post my opinion in threads to see if it sparks any discussion but pretty much all the time it gets ignored but eh.

No. If I felt they were insignificant I wouldn't post to begin with.

That said it is very difficult to find any real significance in a post. I doubt I've ever remotely influenced anyone's mind about any topic in my 1000+ posts. As Grey Carter says it's mostly people just waiting their turns to speak.

But the post of a topic is also what forces you to think about the subject you're posting on. It makes you feel more involved than simply reading and heightens the enjoyment of the experience even if no one else see's your post in the sea of 300.

I post anyway, and I know that people do read it because I usually receive a quoted message full of abuse because ive managed to offend someone.
I'm not accusing you, but I wonder if this is one of the reasons why people on the internet are generally more offensive than they would be in real life. Perhaps they're doing it for attention.

I'm kind of guilty of something similar. I don't try to offend, but when I post I do often quote at least one person (so consider yourself lucky, wooty; you're the chosen one in this thread!). It's not that I do it just for the sake of quoting (it is always relevant), but then at least I'm sure that the people I've quoted will read what I said. I rarely post anything that's not on the first page of a thread otherwise, and I actively seek out threads where not a lot has been posted yet, because I like there to be the possibility for me to say something that will actually be read by people.

I've found that the best way to get quoted is to get into arguments over on the Religion/Politics board. Since I stopped posting there, I basically stopped ever getting quoted. Sigh.

somtimes I wont bother if a thread is too long or I have nothing interesting to say

but somtimes..its worth throwing your opinion out there, you never know...

I mean sure, in the end its not much, but also its really good to have a place to write down your veiws on somthing..

videogames and otherwise (mostly videogames) if a thourght comes to my head (or if somthing trivial is bothering me) then I might post or even make a thread about it, and even if its read by a handful, youve still made it known

plus Ive learnt so much in my time in the forums...

also...no I dont feel like my posts are THAT insignificant, I get quoted a reasonable amount of times...which shows that somone out there read what I had to say and felt the need to reply..or shred it apart...WOO HOO!

Considering how excited I am when I get a message indicating that somebody has quoted me, yes. I'm really disappointed when it turns out it's just a badge.

Sometimes. I rarely post anymore unless I either have something I really want to say or the thread is less than two pages long. After a thread gets to 5 pages, what I have to say probably has already been said and I'm not going to search through 5 pages of discussion looking to check.

Not listening isn't exactly restricted to forums - I'd say it's pretty bog-standard human behaviour.

But is that really all that bad? Forums were invented for the purpose of actual discussion, but who is to say they can't be an outlet for everyone who just wants to vent their opinion, without caring much further than that it can be read.

Just don't expect meaningful discussion in a thread titled "The last thing you XX is now your weapon in a zombie invasion", and you'll do fine.

Yeah i only bother posting if it's still within the 1st few pages.
This, usually just the first page. Sometimes I dredge through the forums for topics that are interesting but not doing so well, and if appropriate, offer input. This said, flipside of the coin, I also usually don't read past the first page of responses, so I'm also sortof the reason why I don't post in huge threads. See? It's kinda ironically hypocritical.

This too, cheers Vault. If you don't throw what you think out there from time to time, you'll never find anyone who thinks "hmm, this fellow / lass seems bright enough, I might drop them a message".

EDIT: Oh, and when I'm lucky enough to get spot 1 on page 2. That's not too bad either.

I react exactly the same way. It's a little sad and pathetic but damn it if that is what makes us happy then we shall fucking well embrace it!

Also kudos to darkstorm13 on what seems to be a popular thread. It's definitely the most I've posted in one thread before.

Most of it either because they get the wrong end of the stick or because my post manages to get read by the one person who has the exact polar opposite view from me. At the end of the day if I get quoted for the sake of a discussion or counter-argument, then thats fine. But I have got a few in the past where the response has just been "fuck you",even on topics as trivial as "what game are you playing now?".

I react the same way to this and any other similar things, like comments on my statuses and messages on Facebook. But what you said describes my attitude perfectly *embraces it*

I think i've posted this before, months ago on some other topic

I feel like most topics on these boards are resolved within first 20 posts of it, no real discussion value after that, just people repeating what others have said. Very rarely will you have new ideas after the third page. Very large amount of people don't even read past page 2 and the last 2 pages. I think alot of people are "guilty" of that. In that sence i do think most posts are insignificant.

DO find it funny that some of the "i dont post alot" people have 2k + posts :D

edit: jaw kinda dropped when i saw i had 600+ posts myself
