Mm, depends on the game and how well it's written. Felt a bit silly in Dragon Age, but I felt more than comfortable in Persona 4: (Persona 4 spoilers...I guess it's only for if you don't know who the playable characters are)
Romanced Rise Kujikawa and felt this sense of joy by the end of it, especially in the wyas she had developed...then got pissed off when I was one rank of courage off of starting a social link with Naoto...oh well, 2nd playthrough should do the trick

100% silly. Every time.

In everything.
Oh you.
Hey, until Bioware can invent a romance that feels less silly, and I've played some other RPG with romance to compare BioMance to...I feel silly.
There's nothing silly about romancing a broody elf! Nothing!!

Romancing Varric might have been less silly...

Does any part of you feel silly at all when playing Dragon Age for an example and having to romance characters? Would you do it if you didn't have to do it?
You've never had to in any game I know of...

And no, it doesn't. Then again, I am immune to feeling silly. Good for me, bad for everyone who as ever hung out with me.

No more so than killing monsters, buying virtual items with virtual currency or otherwise playing a game that offers escapism through a sort of immersion would. If a game makes you feel uncomfortable for whatever reason, that's probably a good sign that you are not the target demographic for that game. So I don't personally find Mass Effect or Dragon Age bothersome....I love those games....but most JRPGs make me feel a bit like (okay, a lot like) I'm a grown man playing the adventures of angsty wild-haired teens whose problem set is something I barely related to as it is when I was one myself. Thus why I avoid JRPGs and stick to something that is a more comfortable "fit" for me =)

Haha! Yes! He would totally have said that. He would have also made Hawke's boobs massive in his retelling.

Depends on the characters.

Like, I romanced Jacob in Mass Effect 2 for his great personality *cough* and nice body *cough*

It wasn't silly.

I can't recall a game, save dating sims, that require a romance to continue the plot. When i'm playing an RPG I want to get into the brain of my character and see things from their perspective. So no, I don't feel silly while playing.

As for the slash fics and creepy fan art, well I can't explain that. :D

No not really, nothing your doing in a game is "real" so it really doesn't make me feel any less silly than killing baddies or whatever.

Yeah, I felt silly the first time I engaged in a "Biomance". It was Mass Effect 1, which I had planned to play without romancing anyone. At that time the idea of romance in a videogame seemed preposterous to me, and indeed the initial flirts between Shepard and Ash/Liara were distinctly facepalmworthy, but after a while... I dunno... the way that Liara looks at me...

Er, Shepard! I mean the way she looks at Shepard.

Most bioware romances make me feel creepy and innapropriate. With the exception of maybe Alastair and Kaiden.

Mass Effect 2 is so wierd as Femshep. Your LI is just going on about something and then you have the option 'I want you' completely out of nowhere. It's really uncomfortable at least Kaiden tried to chat you up a bit.

Most of the time they don't allow you to romance the most likable character anyway :< Gimme Joker alreadies <3 and Varric. Bioware are mean.

Well, you don't have to =) But imagining that you did, I would still do it if the characters had a personality - fortunately for Dragon Age, the personalities and the voice acting are(IMO) excellent.
The problem I strike is that the actual romance parts tend to look a little goofy, mostly because of the uncanny valley, mechanical puppet factor of the *animations*.
Elves have a bit of a long neck when naked. Also (speaking of Merril) since most do not look like they age even though a lot of time does pass in dragon age 2 she still looks jailbait when she moves in with you(kind of creepy).

Hope i can continue my romance with Garrus in ME3 btw >.<

Only really in games where theres no benefit...like with prostitutes in any game. Otherwise I see it as something that furthers the story.
