Do you feel that Assassin's Creed isn't stealthy enough?

I definitely felt this playing AC2. Not only could you easily kill everybody in the area even if only armed with the hidden blades, escaping was ridiculouly easy. I remember playing AC1, it captured that feeling in The Matrix where Neo is running through apartments and up stairs but the Agents just seem to be everywhere, always on his tail. AC2 I lost my alert status by hanging off a ledge... on the same building I was spotted on.

I'd definitely prefer a harsher punishment for lack of stealth, and maybe make it so "I've been spotted, I'll just jump off the building in any old direction, slam into the ground and use a medicine pouch and I'm safe" isn't a viable option. I shouldn't be rewarded with anonymous status, I should've broken my legs.

Also, I found Ezio's outfit ridiculous. Altair sort of fit in with the times, especially when monks were around (although carrying a backpack arsenal certainly doesn't help) but Ezio went so far as to have a belt with the Assassins' official logo on it. If the numerous swords and daggers didn't tip anyone off, that should have. AC3 should have a system of hiding your weapons, whether by unzipping your hoodie to show a Machete style array of knives, or hiding them in spots in the city to pick up when needed if they're bigger items.

Well, the real hashishin in history werent stealthy at all, they just walked up to their target and killed it and then surrendered themselves.
The developers probably got the no/little stealth gameplay idea from there

It is surprising how this guy can stand menacingly on top of rooftops, but no-one ever looks up, to see him silhoetted and shoot-able, unless they are already up there.
How often do you scan the rooftops of buildings when you're just walking around (especially when you're walking through tight alleyways, where you have to significantly tilt your head back to see upward)? I know I don't.
just me then

In Brotherhood they do punish you for getting detected in certain missions and make it much more stealth orientated for the player...it's a good game.

Weird. I never even really thought of Assassin's Creed as a stealth game. I always considered it basically an action game with freerunning elements.

I'm a person who likes stealth, but the fact that there was little or no stealth in this series to begin with means I've never felt I was missing it. A real stealth assassin game would be, like, sneaking into somebody's house at night and killing them in their sleep without ever being detected.

...Actually, that sounds like it would be pretty good. Take note of this, Ubisoft!

You should try the Hitman series sometime. If a 6'5" white man masquerading as a 5' Malaysian man isn't stealth, I don't know what is.
this reminds me of the movie art of war (i think) where wesley snipes plays an undercover agent in ASIA! because, you know, a 6 foot 2 inch black man wouldn't stick out in any way in Asia.

I have yet to play Brotherhood but I've never really been all that stealthy in any of the Assassin's Creed games. Maybe I was just playing it wrong but it never seemed like being caught or discovered was a bad thing.

No game should ever make stealth mandatory. Being forced to sneak feels just as bad as losing. Brotherhood is far too stealthy, there are many sections where detection causes desynchronization.

Brotherhood seems to punish you more in a way for getting caught, but then adds the option of calling in help (which is actually really cool, though. Seeing people come from nowhere to get stabby...makes me wonder if that's what Ezio looks like to others). I've been caught a few times and then my screen fills up with red arrows of enemies coming for me. A few times I had to run away. The guards attack you just about every time you do a finishing move and just seem more aggressive overall, so your health will take a hit if you're surrounded.

But I've always been pleased with the stealth in the series. I think the problem is some player's patience. You're given a choice to either be stealthy, warrior-like, or any combination in-between the two. The total stealth approach forces you to play the game slowly and carefully by both having you take the long route and having you inch to your destination rather than run towards it in the most direct path.

It does seem weird how most people are perfectly fine with you scrambling up walls and running around on rooftops, and also how you can turn completely invisible by entering a group of four people or sitting on a bench. But it is generally fun and exhilarating to be chased around the city.

Well, it's never been about shadowy-stealth.

AssCreedBros has a few 100% sync objectives revolved around not being seen, but the stealth comes from either hiding in crowds or taking people out of your way as quickly as possible.

I think they could push the social stealth more but I disagree with those who say that butchering your way through is easiest; the combat's not difficult, but if you're seen then you'll get a lot of guards on you pretty quickly.

All they really need to do to balance is limit the number of health squares to about 8, even with the maxed out armour. They've lowered it a bit in Brotherhood but I still shouldn't be surviving some of the drops that I have.

yeah, it was pretty annoying especially during the tomb levels. i would fuck up and then just disarm and counter everyone who came after me. if there was a restart checkpoint option, i would probably have used it just so i can assassinate everyone instead.

I never saw it as a stealth game, ever. Probably because I don't like stealth games but absolutely love the Assassin's Creed series. I'm loving the new game to bits but for me the new stealth missions are rather annoying.

I don't see it as a stealth game. I see it as an action-adventure game with stealth elements. That being said, the stealth elements were some of my favorite parts.

Honestly, most games with stealth elements either make the enemies pants-on-head retarded, or "oh there's a tiny piece of a foot sticking out that nobody would see! IT'S THE ENEMY!" smart.

Stealth is a hard thing to manage, and no series has quite gotten it right. The computer always knows where you are at, and is only pretending not to.
Of course it does. You're playing it.

It's a funny thing really. Programming intelligence is relatively easy. Programming stupidity or the like is the real challenge.

The stealth in AC:II may be flawed, but the first game was just plain awful. I remember when I tried to assassinate that army commander. I climbed the wall of the fortress relatively inconspicuously, made a few archers along the top disappear mysteriously, all without being spotted. I intended to then leap down from a safe height, land on the commander unexpectedly and kill him, then run before the guards could draw their swords. Altair, being the stupid prick that he was, jumped from the lowest vantage point... and landed face first on the concrete floor between fifteen guards and the very surprised commander, who all proceeded to lay into me. And this kind of thing happened all the time. AC:II may not be the most stealthy game, but at least its a good game.

Well, its hard to look at it as a stealth game. I mean, if it was, no one would wnat to buy it. So they did what they could to make money.

If you want stealth, go play the old Thief Games.

I have to agree, the stealtiest thing i ever did in ACII was to sneak up and double Assinate 2 guards so that i would just have to counter the kill the remaining 3.
