On one hand, since my thing is computer science and programming and I plan to pursue that as a career, now is probably the best time for me to have been born. On the other hand, the internet has made it perfectly acceptable to type like a retarded monkey with a broom in its ass and I get the feeling I'm the only one who cares about writing something and making it look half-presentable at the least.

Oh, and I don't wear my belt below my knees like a tool.

tl;dr you win some, you lose some

I love my generation,
we're infused with the zest for life of the 80's despite being born into the worst economic crisis since the 30's.
We've bought into this justified war thing that everyone had in the 30's, despite being embroiled in the worst moral cluster fuck since 60's.
We've got the cold war phobia and paranoia of the 60's, without an actual cold war going on since the 90's.
We've have produced just as little culture of note as the 90's, and have done it with twice the technology.

I'm so proud...

OT: Yup. I strongly dislike the intelligence of my generation.

It's feel not "fell". I wouldn't normally say that but it's pretty basic.

Anyway I think I would prefer to have lived in the 50's, when the jazz scene was properly under way. Fedora's and long coats were in style then.

Then again you can never truly know what living in that decade would have been like. Unless you build a time machine..[small]maybe then...[/small]
For one thing; at your age, you'd have not found longcoats and fedoras and jazz cool. That would be for your Dad. You'd more likely end up a Teddy Boy, in which case you'd be into Rock and Roll, or you'd be a beatnik, whose manner of dress and taste in jazz is fairly quirky.

I thought it was natural for people of every generation too feel estranged. What does "estranged" in this case mean exactly? That you dislike the currently popular music/fashion? That doesn't really mark you out as seperate from the rest of your generation.

Nah, I'm pretty happy with when I grew up - the 70's-80's. There were tons of stupid yet fun TV shows, there were great Saturday morning cartoons, Ah-nuld and Sly made lots of absurd action flicks, "reality TV" didn't exist, "American Idol" and its associated bullshit didn't exist, designer "talk to your doctor about such-and-such" commercial drugs didn't exist, metal music was in its (first) golden age, and lolspeak hadn't been invented yet.

I already listen to jazz. Sure I couldn't pull off a fedora, but that doesn't mean I can't like the style. Then again I do love the beat generation. The literature from that time period is excellent.

I should be born in a time where time travel is possible. Then I could be in the generation I choose.

Otherwise I was born in the wrong species. I should have been a Time Lord
That icon is from the Chameleon Circuit video, isn't it? As awkward a your post is, I can't argue with Chameleon Circuit.
Define awkward? And yes it is from Chameleon Circuit

I'm a turn of the 19th century kind of guy. Old school gentleman style. I'm honestly and not ironically about a half step away from a top hat and a monocle. I generally only wear suits as is.

Absolutely. My generation is hell-bent on living one of any number of popular lives, whether it be gangsta or indie or rocker or the OMG SO CUTE AND RANDOOOOOM! crowd. I can count the number of genuine people I know on my fingers, and maybe dipping a bit into my toes.
