My mind tends to make odd leaps in thought at times, but I generally don't get called random. Mainly because my friends like to joke along with me rather than get weirded out.

Not entirely the same, but very similar:
Often, during a conversation, I pick up certain keywords, and before I can do anything against it, I've run down about five associative processes and end up on a completely unrelated topic, which I then comment upon, confusing everyone.

Maybe something like this happens with you too?

This is the case with me. A couple of the people I know can roll with it, but most are dedicated members of the Blank Look Brigade.

Take it as a complement, at least your not boring. I get called random a lot because I'm the only real nerd in my circle of friends so I like to slip internet meme's none too subtly into conversation and then just sit there and watch their perplexed faces. Seriously none of my friends have even heard of the cake is a lie, it's so funny! My quest to confuse them once led to the most awkward attempt to call someone weird that I've ever heard...

OT : it's good that you don't see it in a negative way. if there were no 'random' people then the world would be a much duller place

Agreed. Now I do have ADD and dyslexia, so I can sometimes take logical leaps that take others 5 steps to get (not that I'm right, I just can make weird associations).

And those hacks that think being "murderous" = crazy annoy the hell out of me. Not all crazy/random people are murders, and murders are not always random thoughts.

I guess most of my trains of thought can be claimed to be random. In practice that just means that my logical jumps skip a few more steps than most people's. Which can be a good thing or a bad one

Vinteresting... actually what is plugging?
My mind operates usually between the markers of random and tangent. I.e. thinking about a zombie movie > how to do it right > about 28 days later > l4d > portal > cake > pie > pi joke > then I get mad at math. I don't often verbalize this process, so I don't get called random. That's not the best example, but I can't remember the good ones.

I tend to associate being random as using internet humour in real life. So it something to be avoided at all costs.
