Do you get upset if Yahtzee trashes a game you like?

Nope, his review is his opinion and feelings on a game and everyone is different, hell I've agreed with him about criticisms he makes against game I like anyway, nothing is perfect after all.

As Yahtzee himself said, 'if you like a game then there's no reason why you should get upset if I criticise it, unless there's that nagging little voice in the back of your head saying you're not having as much fun as you claim'. Which is what I immediately thought in relation to the shit storm of comments after the Witcher 2 review.

No I don't, because everyone likes something different, if I enjoy something then the fact that he dislikes it isn't going to effect me. I think he's funny and to be honest most of the points he makes are valid, just sometimes they just don't bother me as much as him.

If Yahtzee actually likes a game It does get my attention because, jesus, whatever can make it through that minefield of cynicism relatively unscathed has to be good.

I used to care, but after watching his reviews for two years I got over it. It's his opinion and he is a lot pickier than a lot of people. Some of his points on a game I can completely agree with like say Super Smash Brothers Brawl. He disliked Brawl because he did not have any fun with it and I can see how that could happen. The game is pretty much a button-masher it doesn't take a lot skill to win, just timing. On the other hand I have a lot of fun with Brawl because it is very simple to play and me and my friends can play 4 player on the same screen something that has become painfully hard to find in games today. So bottom line he gets paid for his opinions if I don't agree with them then I could just stop watching.

Not really. It isn't that bad but when I am called 'wrong' for liking Indiana Jones 4 then it gets on my nerves a bit.

Not really. Most of the time I have to agree with him, even if it is a game I like. It happened with fallout 3, loved the game but it was way too easy (like yahtzee said)

I see Yahtzee's reviews more a satirical critique more than an actual review of a game. They're made for comedy, not really to influence ones decisions

Not really. I take it that his reviews are made to entertain. Even when he does review a game I like, he does make valid points. And his Psychonauts review is 100% right.

Upset is the farthest emotion I feel. If anything I just laugh and can't believe how true what he said was and find it very amusing I never noticed. He always manages to get the things I do notice while playing the game when I think to myself 'That's a retarded mechanic/cinematic moment.'

I barely ever agree with a lot of the things he says but I do not get upset when he trashes games I like, which he has.

However, I don't think it is professional at all to say things along the lines of "whoever likes this is a moron" or "only would play/like this kind of game". Comments like that don't really belong in "professional" reviews.

Also I get a bit ticked off when he says really stupid or arrogant things (like the dehydration in Fallout: New Vegas).
He's not trying to be a professional reviewer. He's trying to be a professional satirist.

It would destroy the tone of his work if he ended it with 'But that's okay, you guys can go ahead and enjoy it on your own recognizance,' unless of course, that was bveing ironic and he actually meant 'You're an idiot for wanting to play this.'

So, yes, what he is doing IS professional from his chosen artistic stance.

I don't get offeneded. partly because he is entitled to his own opinion, but also because he does was he says he does: critiques games. He points out all the flaws in a game, so that he can point out the actual good games. It's not like he hates all games.

I, as everyone should be, am amused by Ben's bashful reviews even if he happens to nitpick on something that's almost pointless at times - Well, it wouldn't be fun if he didn't. On the other hand, whenever he complains about something that's pretty much a major gameplay aspect, I actually find myself agreeing with him 99% of the time, which surprisingly makes his reviews properly informative even in comparison to some professional stuff. o.o

He utterly trashed my favorite game ever (Mirror's Edge) with some truly WTF complaints that weren't remotely true.

I pointed and laughed because the review was funny.

He's trashed a few of my favourite games and series, I just sit back and enjoy the ranting. So what if the stranger on the internet doesn't like what I like?

He usually gives pretty legit reasons why he doesn't like something so it never really bothers me. When he doesn't have a good reason it's usually because he doesn't like the game's genre, like with Mortal Kombat.
