Do you harbour prejudices against people who use drugs?

I'm not that fond of stoners if I'm honest; they're the hipsters of drug users, and tend to be just a little bit smug in their use of it despite how common it is compared to other illegal narcotics. It comes to a point that every time someone tells me they were "so stoned" last night, they have a look on their face that secretly conveys 'aren't I cool, please be impressed at me please please PLEASE".

I'm not a fan of smoking either, and I tend to equate cocaine-users with decadence. I'm okay with alcohol though, since it tends to be the most socially accepted in polite company these days. I'm pretty much a drug-racist.

If one moderates intake, is responsible with their adult life (bills paid and what not), and their social relationships aren't damaged due to personality changes from drug use, then no I've no problem with it. When someone dips into hardcore addict behavior that becomes toxic for all those around them who care about the person, and the person seems to be slowly self-destructing then it is a problem and I would hope the person would wake up and realize the harm they're doing to the folks around them.
I'm not condoning use, and am steadfast against abuse of any sort but I don't judge people for their habits unless the habits cause real harm to those around them.

Drugs are outlawed for a reason. I consider people who use them either idiots, or poor sods. And I will definitely "proceed with caution" if I'll have to communicate with drug users. OP's post is a perfect example why. In a perfect world we wouldn't have that shit at all, but, alas, even f-ing chocolate is a drug, so I've put top line of toleration right above tobacco. Also we cant ignore medical necessity in some drugs, but those subjected to drug therapy go into "poor sods" category.

If you become a problem for other people then I'll judge, doesn't matter if the drug is legal or not. Hell it doesn't matter if it even is a drug, once you make your problems a burden on others you need to be sent for a time out in the corner, with a therapist.

Anyone who likes drugs enough to risk going to "butt-pounding-prison" as that Boondocks episode puts it is someone whose judgement is suspect and I do indeed judge them. I don't usually do or say anything as I respect peoples wishes but yes, it does make me view them as a lesser person in a small way. Mainly I think of them as very dumb.

To clarify, it's not due to any specific drug and its effects but rather due to it being illegal and you still doing it. I don't mind people who get fake doctor notes to get medical pot. They can smoke all they want. If you wanna do drugs so much that you'd risk going to jail and ruining your entire life, you're dumb.

Depends on what drugs.
I'm not even a fan of hanging out with people who are drinking enough that they're drunk.

I'm generally anxious in company and anything that'll make people less predictable or more likely to disrespect personal boundaries, I'm not a fan of.

But if you use them responsible enough, it's your business.

Although, as has been pointed out, you might be supporting some pretty unethical practises with your money.

While I have never and will never take drug, it's your body and it's not my place to tell you what you should and shouldn't do with it. I've been friends with some people who do drugs and I wasn't bothered. I'd only care if they tried to get me involved otherwise they can do what they want.

I assume we're talking about marijuana, right? Well...now that you mention it, I suppose I do.

-My uncle was addicted to recreational drugs in his youth, and it seriously messed up his life for a while (he's been sober for many years now).

-I had a pothead roommate for a while, and he was a complete and utter asshole.

-The smell of pot is disgusting. That cloying, sickly sweet stench is an affront to my nostrils.

-I don't care what they say about its supposed health benefits, anything that requires smoke inhalation can't be good for your lungs. Yes you can eat it in the form of brownies, but why ruin a perfectly good dessert like that?

Am I over-generalizing based on personal experience and knee-jerk reactions? Perhaps. Does that make me a terrible person? Hell if I know. I don't really care, to be honest. Smoke whatever the hell you want, just take a leaf (hur) out of the tobacco smoker's book and do it outside.

My problem is that you're supporting a business run by some of the worst human beings on the planet. Seriously, the things you hear about the cartels and the drug gangs is fucking atrocious stuff and that's not something anyone should encourage.
The way the illegal drug industry behaves is in direct response to government policies and actions against it and its actors. If they were allowed to operate as a legitimate and regulated industry the same way alcohol and tobacco do we would not have the violence that some many people think is systemic. Back when people were taking Laudanum for nearly everything or drinking truly classic Coca Cola we didn't have anything like the issues we have today.

Yes. But not for all drugs.

Like pot is fine, and I probably wouldn't be too bothered with a few others if I well, knew much about them any more. But when you start doing shit that really does just do damage to you. (Huffing fumes, crystal meth) Eh, you're crossing a bad line in my book, and I don't like it so much.

But whatever, I don't like drinking either.

I'd like to say I don't care wether one uses drugs or not, but I tend to keep away from anyone under the influence of any drug, including alcohol. I prize lucidity, and I count on being able to think straight at any time. People who give up rational thought and the chemical balance of their brain are people I wouldn't want around me.

Other than the argument that it is very difficult to be without prejudice, no, although maybe your use of "harbour" covers that.

First off, it's none of my business, second it would be massively hypocritical of me. You do find some people in my position get a massive hate on for drug use as a defence mechanism. I don't really hang around with people who use drugs anymore, it's like being at the pub while everyone else is drunk and you don't want to drink because you're just so bored of it.

Not really, no. I don't think hard drugs are a good idea, but if people really want to use them, then it's really none of my business. Unless, of course, someone has a child to care for that their drug habit caused them to neglect or creates a harmful environment for.

I've had a lot of people tell me that there's nothing wrong with weed.

Then proceeded to immediately make me feel uncomfortable because I'm not big on the smell. I don't toke. Or they tell me how they've "christened their apartment" and then immediately do that shuffle when I tell them I'm not big on it. Like, I've just become some sort of lecherous gross person.

I used to kind of treat it like smoking. Just, don't do it in my house. If I'm in your space and you want to light up, meh. Whatever. It's your space. But, please respect my preferences. Also, you're an addict. If you wake up to two poppers every morning. You're a fucking addict. You're an addict if I load up team speak to hear you toking every fucking time. Same with steam VOIP, and same with in-game VOIP. You're an addict if you need to toke before, after, and during every single fucking DnD/Shadowrun session.

Correction: It used to not bother me. But working and playing with a bunch of fucking addicts for around an entire year? Now it does. I used to want a lot of these things legalized, now I'm conflicted. Keeping it illegal causes crimes, but having the harsh punishments on the addicts? Well... Maybe they'll change. I don't know.

Tabaco is the fucking worst drug of all, and that ones legal. Seriously why is the one drug that gives peoples cancer and not only the users but the bystanders too the on that is legal?

I understand we didn't know that in the 18-1900's, but we do now same, never usderstaood why this didn't meet the same fate as the rest. Corporate greed no doubt.

Tabaco is a like a legal way to murder someone, it's doesn't matter if you lived clean your entire life, someone else can get you second hand.

Weed and such are fine, they don't do anything bad, not to the primary users or the secondary smoke inhalers.

More hard drugs are fine, provided the person taking them is actually doing it by their own free will. It's their life if they want to fuck it up let them. I wouldn't.

Of course they should be treated the the same as alcohol, no driving, age resritictions and such. Just to aviod hurting others and reckless use.

I wouldn't vote a drug user for president, even if they only scored coke once a month, yet anything short of a hopeless drunk (and here the threshold of a hopeless drunk is very high) would totally get a pass. I don't have any real experience on hard drugs, but my opinions veer towards "not good for anyone anywhere". You only hear about the cautious tales in media and thus almost everywhere. So yeah, prejudices against drug users. I automatically regard them as less reliable for example. Though I support the decriminalization of pot.

I don't really care, they're normal people that only act iffy during withdrawal.
Unless they're a close friend or I have some sort of obligation to them like owing them a favor, I wouldn't step in either and force them to quit either, they're free to do as they like.
