Well, if you need me to elaborate on the thread title, there's not much hope for you.

Is there a band whose music you prefer a Live version over the normal version?

Me? Hell, I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out there. I LOVE Paramore live.

Against Me! I listened to their recorded stuff, and thought, "Huh. I actually prefer the live versions, how curious."

In Flames.... their recordings seem to take some bite out of their songs.

All of them. Even the ones who are dead. "Now please welcome onto the stage the rotting zombie corpse of John Lennon!!!"

Lamb of God, In Flames, Devil Driver, Trivium, Killswitch Engage and Darkest Hour are all pretty epic live.

All I can say is Dream Theater. They're just... amazing.
(Though the "Live Scenes from New York" wasn't that good...)

A few. Explosions in the Sky is awesome either way, although the live show is the best live show I've ever seen. I like Jeffrey Lewis live more than recorded, however.

Strongly agreed. They are a band that must be seen live in order to be fully enjoyed. I've seen them about three times now and they were absolutely incredible every time.

That's how it was for me too... but then I went and bought into some of their back catalogue, and I'm like... "this is missing something"

i saw green day live. man do they know how to play a crowd. there recorded stuff is goos but them live is AMAZING
I agree. But after the fifth time of seeing them needlessly stretch a 3 minute song into an 8 minute one with some call and resonse a lot of the novelty wears off. The same with the forming a band onstage, after you've seen it once you just wish they'd chuck an extra two songs into the set instead. But when they're going all out they are great fun.

'Maiden! Awesome in studio, even more awesome live.

Can't wait until Sonisphere!
I knew I wouldn't be the only one to say this. Here is an example.

Studio - great

Live - the single video that got me interested in seeing music performed live. 250,000 screaming Brazillians, what an atmosphere. The drums, the voice, the crowd...
