Yes, I rarely play with them though as online multiplayer with randoms is shit, whether you've got a group of friends with you or not, and we don't have enough time to organise LAN parties very often. When we do we'll play together, but generally we play alone, different games.

Yeah, I play co-op or against people locally.
I am not one for online games (except WarcraftIII, LoL and the occasional MMO I happen to try out)
Otherwise I play on my console at home and sometimes with friends.

I have no gaming friends, but I wish I did. My IRL friends do play video games, but are all closet gamers - they make jokes about people who play games being graceless basement virgins, then go home and play games anyway.

I haven't really added anyone online either, since I don't want to end up on either side of a To Catch a Predator situation, so I play alone. First world problem :'(

This is pretty much the vibe with most of my friends in the music scene I used to hang with. They all play games...most probably play more than I do and spend more money on gaming hardware and such...but as soon as anyone tries to talk about it, it's snarky-hipster-o-clock and video games are uncool things for losers who aren't cool enough to do things like brew their own beer and suddenly get into things like boxing (for some reason, that's happened to like 3-4 of my friends in the past few years).

Wondering if people would like to play alone over socially online.

I myself lean towards online gaming with friends.
I have a decently sized group of people I game regularly with, but even with that, I tend to prefer to play alone in just about everything except MMOs (which is the majority of what I play with them).

There are those I could with, and have at least a little. However, I tend to just play games along with my girlfriend.

I've had plenty of online gaming friends with no issues, just don't give out your personal details really. If you'd like a game I'm always up for one, upto you :)

OT: I have a bunch of mates I game with, I setup my own TS for us to comms. Some I've never met, some I met online and then met in person as they live locally and some I've known for years in RL and we started gaming online, so a mixture of all types. Also if anyone wants to have a game feel free to add me on steam, always up for another game.

Nope.
I have friends IRL who are gamers, but I'm a solo player, both off and online.

Of a sort...

My internet connection is pretty shit for my consoles so it's hard for me to play online with my friends. Even then it's rare since most of my friends are Xbox 360 users and the of the three I have that have a PS3 one sold his off so he could get a new phone and the other two have to share. One of my friends was able to get a Minecraft server set up, so sometimes we play Adventure maps, although the lag can make it near-unplayable.

Mostly if I'm playing with friends, it's with people who I've met on Team Fortress 2. There's a particular server and game mode that we all seem to frequent so we all just team up together and fight Saxton Hale (or beat eachother to death AS Saxton Hale).

Ya, actually. Most of my friends game at some level, and it's become how I keep in touch with people. One of my groomsmen I've known since second grade but have only seen him a couple times since third grade, but we've been playing games since I moved away. It started with Red Alert (the original one), and has since evolved to everything from Call of Duty to Chivalry and a huge number of other games. We used to stay up late in the later parts of elementary school, headsets on the main lines of our home phones and taking up the second lines with our dial up internet, playing Red Alert against each other and doing nothing other than trying to make the most awesome bases. We still go back to those games and do it every once in a while.

I have a pretty big group of friends that play games, since I'm somewhat of a social chameleon and as such befriend a lot of people I share interests with. That being said, I mostly play by myself, since my primary group of gamer friends are Xbox users or I just never manage to make time to play with them.

I do however play League of Legends a lot with my friends.

I've been playing with the same group of 5-8 people for the past 5 years, and we met on this very site. Although the line between "online" friend and "IRL" friend has blurred in that time, since we often now interact with those near us geographically.

We've lost a few members here and there, but we also occasionally bring new chaps into the fold. We were based on XBL, but have migrated largely to the PC these days, and we've been playing D&D via the web for 3 years or so.

We talk on Skype for a few hours nearly every day, and we play together often, having covered an extensive library of co-op and MP games over the years. We don't always play the same games, but often 2-3 of us will play an MMO as a group, and even if playing SP, we'll chat to the others, unless we want immersion and play solo.

Strange to think it all started with Call of Duty 4, way back here in 2008. This group has been a massive part of my life for such a long time, I forget how much I owe the Escapist for bringing us together. And CoD, I guess, but I feel better leaving that one out :).

I don't mean to get all sentimental on you folks, but when I think of these friends and the role the Escapist has played in my life, it makes me proud to be a part of gaming. This is what makes it special. You guys are amazing.

All my friends are from real life and they are my genuine friends from social groups. I have two groups my Xbox friends and my Steam friends, anything multiplayer based like TF2, minecraft or L4D2 I'll play with them but they cannot follow me to the land of the rpg, it is a scared grove which only I can enter.

Nope, I'm a loner for the most part when it come to multiplayer/ online gaming (I suppose the closest is doing some Guild Wars 2 dungeons run with some people from the Guild Wars group).
One of my friend is more into console (X Box 360) and although his new pc is now gaming ready, he still haven't have the time to try out Guild Wars 2 (before you asked, I don't have an 360) and my other friend can't be bother to buy games these days either.

Don't play RL with anyone but I have a group of online friends who are all members of the Escapist that I regularly game with.

1 co op buddy and close friend, and a clan that got together out of love for planetside 2, but now tend to play almost anything with multiplayer together
