Adventure Quest Worlds was fun.
Its free(but all the cool items and Equipment cost a pretty cheep membership), looks Decent and will run a in any browser, tons of stuff to do even without a Membership.

There's always Planeshift... It's nowhere near finished yet, and it's a bit buggy. Plus the character models for some races aren't complete. Still good fun in places though! If you're not interested in a fixer-upper opportunity, I'd go for something other, less insane people, have suggested.
