If you consider Fallout 3 an RPG (it's really not to me, but it's advertised as such), no need at all for grinding.

huh? I've never played a single player RPG that does require grinding. Maybe because I don't play JRPGs, but I can't be sure since I've never played any :p

ROFLMAO. It's not an RPG? Cause killing with bullets/guns instead of spells/arrows make it so?
Not exactly no.

It's just that you can get better at killing things by picking locks, or vice versa, I can't roleplay an annoying child murderer (LITTLE LAMPLIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT), and the "role" you are given is already chosen for you: Vault dweller, among other reasons why I don't feel like I'm roleplaying.

There's mods that change all of these, but the base game, not so much an RPG as a shooter with lots of minigames. Sounds perfect for what the OP is looking for.

Chrono Cross didn't require grinding; it just leveled you up whenever you beat a boss.

the batshit insane assign summons and suck magic system, but maybe you can
Actually, grinding was counterproductive in FF8; being lower level actually made the game easier because every monster's strength was based on your level, which thus made the equipped magic more powerful in comparison. Then you could use Diablo's No-Encounter ability to skip every random battle and breeze through the game.

But yeah, rigging the system required understanding it, and it was pretty weird.
You could beat almost any enemy in the game at level 13, in fact the only boss that causes any problem would be Omega

..are you still here, OP?

Anyway, Valkyria Chronicles. No, it's not technically an RPG. But it's a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements, so I'll just pretend it counts.

I really like it. But it is an acquired taste. It literally feels like you are in an anime. Whether that is a pro or con is up to you. And it totally did the timed dialogue thing before Alpha Protocol.
Alright, you've piqued my interest. I'll have to check it out.

well your pretty much always given a role, i mean you can make small variations, but still.. look at final fantasy games, they are rpg games but you end up with the same ending anywas. : p

Also the term "rpg" game is kinda loose since techincly you could say that the zelda games are rpg games. while most people would say that you'd need a leveling system of sorts for the game to qualify as a rpg that is not neccessarily true.

So my answer would be go play some more zelda, you don't have to grind there. actually could just say that the rpg games without a leveling system you don't really have to grind in. : p

Wow, so any game that you don't get to create your own past isn't actually a roleplaying game? Gee, I've NEVER seen one of those, so I guess RPGs don't exist. And what's wrong with picking lkcs making you a better killer? Picking locks takes skill with you hands/body, which you can argue could easily enchance your ability to fire a gun more accurately. You are basically nitpicking nonsense.

What games in the last 5 years are actually "real" RPGs in your eyes?

I gotta hear this.
So I guess you don't realize your posts are actually very hostile. I'll ignore you untill they arn't and you ask kindly. I gave my answer for Fallout 3, take it or leave it.

Now see, THIS is a neutral response that I can respond too, so I will.

And here's my response: You just defined RPG I suppose 'by the book', I have my own definition. Simple as that.

Morrowind...?
The only grind-based RPGs I know are pretty much all MMORPGs. With the obvious exception of Drift City, which is one of the weirdest and coolest games I've ever played.

Well while you might have taken it as an insult, I don't really see it like that. Also you seem to be avoding the question, instead of answering it you decided to get offended. : p

It's my choice, if someone offends me I either tell them off or ignore them. I would do the former if I thought I could get away with it, but I don't, so the latter is all that's left.

And maybe you're not offended because the post isn't directed at you or what you think saying it's wrong.

No more responds for you or this thread now!

Persona 4.
Going through the dungeon once should give you enough exp to beat the boss. You can go back to the dungeons if you wish, but except for a bonus boss at the end the usual enemy encounters will give you little to no experience so it is not worth it to grind out levels. If you defeat the bonus boss, the party member the dungeon represents will get a new weapon that is better than the weapon you beat the dungeon with.

Social links are part of the story so I don't really think they qualify as grinding. If you have a persona that corresponds to the person in your lineup it minimizes the appearances of time blocks where nothing happens.

Mass Effect, KOTOR, Fallout 3 & New Vegas, and several others that I can't think of at the moment.

Well your way of arguing is kinda childish. imagine in politics if someone came up with a healtcare plan, and someone goes and points out an obvious flaw to it and then he comes back with "wow that is insulting to me, you are offending me. I will not reply to you anymore, and i will not discuss the subject any further!"

Did you miss the elder scrolls? All I do is wander for ten minutes and BAM! Level up. It kind of started to bug me towards the end of oblivion.

In my opinion, any game that requires plot-free grinding is fundamentally flawed.

But that's just me.
