Evening/Early morning to the Escapist,

Now I think we already know what this thread is about but at the moment I am just too lazy to come up with a creative title.

So so you know anyone or have you yourself dated/married someone with a similar name. Eg. A couple like Patrick & Patricia, Taylor & Tyler, Samuel and Samantha, I think you get the idea.

Also to add, do you think its a little strange dating someone with the same/similar first name or is it just a new norm or a taboo?

EDIT/ADDED SIDE NOTE: What about those you know that dated/married someone who's partner had the same or similar name to there family member eg. mother, father, brother, sister etc.

Comment below and thanks you once again.

My youngest brother dated a girl named Taylor and his name is also Taylor

Because our family is a beacon of maturity, she became Taylor Boobs while Taylor just kept his name.

Not sure why that relationship didn't last...

No, but I have witnessed a situation about dating people with similar names.

My half-sister, Katie, has a different last name than me. It's not important what it is. She dated a guy for a few years in high school, and ultimately broke up with him for reasons we didn't ask much of. Our family loved this guy and his family, and we continued to stay in touch with him and his family until he moved out of state. We find out that he dated (and less than a year married) a girl whose first name was Katie and whose last name was our last name.

Funny coincidence, I think, that he happened to marry a different Katie who had our last name.

There was this one friend I had in high school who secretly had a small crush on me... and he had the same name as me...

How did I find out about said crush? ...Facebook... a few years later... (I find it cute overall...)

Not similar names, but I did know this couple that looked like brother and sister. Both were blonde, Children of the Corn-type people, and almost exactly the same height, around 5' 8".

They broke up though, as the guy turned out to be a jerk, and the girl moved onto different things, namely meth.

That sounds...Awkward.

OT: Not the same, but I'm dating someone who has the same name as my mother with a different spelling. Also my brother (still different spelling), three friends (one has the same spelling) my mom's boss (similar or same spelling) and about a dozen other people in my life.

It makes it difficult to differentiate.

I need to stop hanging around with clones.

Sorta...When I was in the army I knew a guy whose last name was Mailman who married someone named Postal. It was weird. I didn't even know those were names.

It would be a noble cause, making this world a touch weirder.

You need to be a special kind of crazy to be in my family

If you're at a wedding, my family is going to be the ones out there doing the Gangnam Style dance.
At our Christmas party, we have a drinking contest where everyone creates a drink/shot that everyone votes on.
At our Christmas party (again), we play a dice game to give presents out. Two of these gifts had pornos in them ;)
The Hangover is our official family movie

Yeah....crazy might not be the right word. Insane maybe? Insane might be better :D

My family randomly agreed they hated black people a few years back. Which would have been funnier if I wasn't dating a black person at the time.

Our family movie appears to be Super Troopers.

Crap. I'm actually drawing a blank on other examples. I keep thinking back to Christmas and realising I watched Hunt For Red October, a movie with a man from Vilnius who defects from Russia and ends up on the Penobscot river with a man who was from Vilnius and defected from Russia (and later served onboard a sub, which is also kinda funny) and ended up with a family from along the Penobscot river. That's not crazy, it's just...WOAH.

Although the fact that we never seem to watch Christmas movies at Christmas might be. The last one Christmas related was Lethal Weapon a couple years ago.

Not a couple, but in high school I knew a pair of red-headed twins. Now as if nature hadn't already been cruel enough their parents named them Edward and Edwina.

No, but I once rejected a girl that showed an interest in me on the grounds of having the same name as my little sister. Some people I tell say that's weird and they wouldn't care, other people are like "Yeah, absolutely legitimate reason."

I find the people that say the latter are people with actual siblings. It's not entirely related but I'm curious what you guys think of this?

Yeah, I know what you mean...depends how common the name is, I think. If you meet loads of them, maybe not such an issue, but if it's a name you've only really associated with a family member...awkward.

My buddy Nicholas married a lass named Nicole.

Both of them hate their names and insist on being called Nicky.

Both of them are a huge pain in the ass.

There is a friend of mine called Jon, and he recently got engaged to a lass named Joan. There were also my drama teacher and my english teacher who ended up married and they had the exact same surname. At least she won't have to change her passport or driving license, I guess that's a plus
