Do you lie about yourself online?

I'm not talking about your name, or address or things like that.

Do you ever lie about/exaggerate things you've done, things you've experienced, people you've met, accomplishments, etc? Or in a debate do you lie about credentials to make your point appear more valid?

I don't think I've ever flat out lied about something that's happened to me but I will admit from time to time I embellish some details in order to give the story some extra zing. The basic premise will be true though. I don't ever flat out make up something just to have something to say.

So what about you? Anyone ever 100% honest online? If not, what things do you tend to exaggerate?

I did years and years ago. Everyone was a lot more gullible then, too, so it was almost always taken at face value.

Now, I'm pretty much exclusively honest, but everyone assumes everyone is lying anyway.

It's a funny old world.

I'm a terrible liar. I even leave one or two things out that I have done or seen because to me they seem too farfetched for anyone to believe. Things that really you'd have to have been there to see yourself. So, no.

Yeah I do. It's pretty funny in an argument because they have absolutely no idea whether I am telling the truth or not. I normally do it to prove a point to a random person. I don't care if they think I am lying or not.

Oddly, no. I generally don't say things I don't feel comfortable saying though. Other than that I'm pretty open since there's pretty much no chance of it coming back.

Doesn't that mean you're lying about being a liar? Which means you're telling the truth? But then saying you're lying about being a liar also means you're a liar too...

I tend not to. I don't really see the point in lying to impress strangers on the internet because they don't mean anything to me, I don't mean anything to them so any admiration I received would be hollow.
It would be much easier to be honest with people, If people them want to be your friend for who you are, not who you claim to be, then you have yourself a decent friend.

Simple, he is a liar. But he doesn't lie all the time.
Bah, I'm not cut out for this 'thinking' business.

Don't mess with paradoxes, you'll rip a hole in the universe.

OT: Nah, I don't really see the point. Doesn't make me feel big to lie about myself.

No, I don't have any reasons to lie about anything online. If anything, I prefer to keep certain details to myself. I'll talk about my experiences when it's relevant to a discussion or when I'm giving advice, but stuff like my gender/age/etc., I don't usually feel the need to correct people on if they're wrong.

Unless you count random things that are ridiculous and obviously not true that I only tell people to mess with them and see if they notice. That's just amusing.

Not at all, if you can't be truthful about yourself in front of a community of people who don't know who you are in real life and will not suffer any repercussions, then how are you going to be truthful at all?

I try very hard to be myself online as I am offline. Sure I don't give my first name to anyone but abusing the power of anonymity is done too much these days. I'll be who I am and I'll answer as many questions as I can truthfully. I won't be able to do that 100% but I think everyone lies from time to time...

I lie, tell the true, mix 'n' match, withhold the truth etc.

It's a game for me and depends on my mood. Usually I don't brag because I don't feel the need to validate myself to faceless strangers thousands of miles away.

Here's an added thought:

Regardless of whether you lie about yourself online, do you lie to yourself online?
