Do you like Halo 4 multiplayer?

What does everyone think of the multiplayer now that it has been out for a while? I personally really love it, even though Halo makes me rage like no other.

If you were given the opportunity to change ONE Thing, what would it be?

For me, I would remove the radar while using Promethean Vision.

FYI: I originally had this as a different thread and I broke rules. Didn't do it on purpose but thats why the first few posts are about me "advertising" - It wasn't intentional, so I changed the thread to something more appropriate.

Advertising is frowned upon here because there isn't much discussion to be had. Might want to remove that link and add some discussion value :). Maybe what's your favourite weapon in Halo 4 and why?

EDIT: Glad to see the edit ^^. I don't have any faults with it so far aside from the maps and the lack of variation. There are a few maps out there but a lot of them have the same core design. Three paths, the middle being the biggest and usually most contested. A few of the weapons seem a bit useless but I haven't used them enough so *shrug.*

So advertising yourself? This thread doesn't seem to have any other purpose, which upsets me because your name is awesome and I don't want you to get banned yet :(

Yea I threw in some discussion. It seems every time I post in these forums I break a rule lol. I'm not trying to do any harm lol, i guess I just let my excitement get the best of me.

I dislike the addition of loadouts. Everyone just goes for DMR, and my dumb ass has to wade through bullets so my nerf gun can get a few darts attached before my brains decorate nearby walls. Unless I have the mantis. Dear Jesus Herpaderp Christ I love that mech suit....

I can break the same rule more than once =p.

But as far as the loadouts are concerned I think there were missed opportunities with the "perks" it seems like they could have gone full-out. And getting shot will slow you down when sprinting, I think that should only happen when your sheilds are gone, makes it really hard to get away from DMRs.

The only other thing I really have a problem with is I think Promethean vision is a bit too powerful, I think it should hide your motion sensor while you are using it.

Yeah, I'm okay with sprinting, but were a bad call all around. CODification is no bueno.

I think they weakened the jet pack, so the only viable option is promethian vision...

I still haven't played the MP mode because the second disc install keeps failing for reasons that are beyond my understanding. Spartan Ops is working though and it's a nice addition to the whole package.

But in response to your question; the one thing I would change is that I would have the MP disc install correctly.

I like it. I thought Halo's multiplayer was getting stale a very long time ago, and the only game to do anything to mix it up well was Reach. 4 continues to mix things up... albeit in a completely unoriginal manner by flat-out introducing loadouts (I wonder where they got this idea from) as if they had no other ideas to make the game more interesting. (Some might say adding loadouts will further FPS stagnation)

Still, I do like it. I haven't played Halo this much in awhile... Even though it's host to many annoyances.

If I could change one thing, it would be to nerf the DMR. It's just too damn strong.

I'm open to the idea of loadouts, but the balance of weapons screws with the loadout concept. Namely, what weapon are people going to pick when there's one gun that's blatantly stronger than all the other guns?

Exactly.

Other problems:

The boltshot. Even though it has it's weaknesses, giving people the ability to loadout with a weapon that can OHKO people is silly to the utmost degree.

Why can't I manually cool down my Storm Rifle like I could with the Plasma Repeater from Reach?

Next is plasma grenades. Why in the flying fuck do they only give you ONE Promethean pulse grenade at spawn, and TWO plasma grenades? What, are pulse grenades 'too strong' and Plasma Grenades not strong enough? Pffft.
I can't count the amount of times I've shot some guy to death only to have a plasma grenade coagulate itself on my face and kill me - Somehow this person I shot to death managed to get a plasma grenade off even though I killed him BEFORE HIS THROWING ANIMATION EVEN BEGAN.

All I can think of for now. oh, we need like, a lot more levels too.

As a whole? Yes. Does it have problems? Definitely.

The very core of movement jump, melee, etc, is great. I don't even mind the loadouts(though boltshot is OP and DMR is a little much) as they basically just skip the middle man. Sure you could go pick up the Carbine or Plasma Rifle in the other games, but really it wasn't worth the investment to go out of your way to pick up those weapons besides just to change it up.

My biggest issues are with the playlist setup and instant respawn, also Pods. Still, I am having a good time for the most part. Also it kicks the crap out of Reach so that is something. It just needs some to be polished a bit and it will really shine.

It's not as good as Reach IMO.

- Too much glare/yellow. Bright yellow gunflash + bright yellow shields + enough lens flares to make J.J Abrams (Star Trek movie director) envious = makes it hard to see when a gunfight is going on.

- Maps are too cluttered. There's barely any space to drive vehicles around in.

- Standard weapons are really carbon copies of one another. They took all the "unique" weapons, and made them only available as equipment drops. Also, the DMR and Binary rifle being overpowered.

- Armor Lock. With all the people who complained about this, I guess I'm the only one that really likes it. It leveled the playing field vs. vehicles, made it so you could sometimes avoid the "Sticky after death" thing, etc. I thought it was a great ability, I miss it.

- No Invasion mode. /sadpanda

I love Halo 4's multiplayer, personally. I didn't get Reach in time to experience the community at it's peak, but I spent considerable hours with Halo 3 and Halo 2. Each has their good and bad, but overall... I actually prefer Halo 4's multiplayer to the others.

Favourite Addition:
Loadouts. They are a nice addition which keep the pace nice and quick, however weapon balance needs to be tweaked.
Most people I've come across who have an issue with Loadouts only really have an issue with a particular weapon that Loadouts give them at spawn, such as the DMR and Boltshot. If these weapons were adjusted, Loadouts wouldn't be an issue.
Previous Halos were really all about Weapon Spawns - getting that spawned weapon and keeping it was what decided virtually every leaderboard. Loadouts change that, while preventing you from having a Spartan Laser from the get-go.

The only change would be to balance the weapons a little. If you're not spawning with the DMR and Boltshot, you're simply playing the game wrong. That needs to change.

They gotta nerf the DMR, it's absurd. 5 shots to kill a guy with no recoil/reticule bloom and an extremly fast fire rate makes it waaay better than anything else. Like, I usually can't even have fun because using any other gun is pointless.

Also, put some weapons on the damn map. It sucks not having anything to kill the vehicles with.

I'd also like to see the Cloak fixed. I'll never understand why they took that direction with the completely unnecessary nerf in Reach. Right now the only thing it's good for it sitting in a corner with a boltshot/shotgun/scattershot.

On the Cloak thing, either take out the armor abilities or make them do something. As it is the only useful ones are Hologram and Promethain Vision.

They should also bring back the thing when you get hit while zoomed in it makes you zoom out.

Other that that it's... alright. Not good but not bad. Just kinda there.

Let me start by saying there is a lot in Halo 4 I like. But there is too much in the way, covering it up, blocking it out, clogging it up. Sometimes you can tell they're covering up bad design with more bad design and so on.

It's awful. It's a bastard mutant amalgamation of nonsense that seems like it was designed by someone who had no idea what they wanted it to be. It's also barely functional, with botched playlist design, broken Join in Progress, gutted custom game options, buggy forge, glitched custom options that literally don't work, inexplicably terrible UI, and no options to turn off a lot of the awful shit they crow-barred in. You can't turn off sprint in custom games? Do I really need to list the reasons that is a problem? This game has been another blow to the competitive community. They are currently divided into factions, each with about ten perfectly valid reasons why the settings the other camp prefers are not fun and not viable for competition. The loadout/experience system rewards individual goals over team goals. Did you know you can track your career Kill/Death count in-game, but not Wins/Loss? In fact, the whole game is designed to discourage teamwork.

How long after release have we gone without a working Fileshare feature? And they're already releasing $10 DLC for a game in this state?! And the new maps aren't even going to fill the gaping hole where our small maps are supposed to be? So I'm stuck with Haven. EVERY. TIME. At least Haven is a good map. You know why it's a good map? Because it's two donuts on top of each other. Everything about this game is random wacky bananas but the one map that is kind of small and segmented is the one instance they decided to exercise some poorly timed restraint?

I don't want to play slayer because sprint, instant respawn, spawning at the other team's base, armor abilities, enormous and wonky maps, too many/too weak vehicles, personal ordinance, and random ordinance spawns turn the game into a random and incomprehensible clusterfuck with little direction to my actions except camping or pushing the stick forward and waiting until I see an enemy. NO ONE PUT ANY MEANINGFUL THOUGHT INTO HOW ALL THAT SHIT WAS SUPPOSED TO COMBINE TO CREATE A QUALITY OR EVEN COHERENT EXPERIENCE. You would think putting an objective on the map would help. Objective modes are boring because all anyone uses them for is farming the people who actually try to work the objective to improve their kill/death ratio. Why does my reticle keep moving around when I'm not moving it? I feel Spartan Ops is not what I was promised. This game made me reexamine the time I've spent with the last few Halo games. I can't make excuses for this anymore. I don't know what this game is even supposed to be, and neither does 343. Except the marketing department, I guess.

You want the series to grow, so it doesn't stagnate and get old. But where do you go looking for ideas? Do you go looking in your understanding of the Halo formula? Do you start with what works and push out past your limits? Or do you haphazardly rip off your competition without understanding the subtleties? Let's be honest here, they tried to start with Halo's competitive style and cram in Call of Duty's gameplay revolving around achieving personal milestones in a multiplayer backdrop, then add a dash of Battlefield to go along. It all mixed about as well as sodium and water. For 343's next attempt, I suggest they keep the following sentiment in mind:

Clarity of Vision

;;;

As for what I would change, I would give the DMR similar properties to the Halo: CE pistol. My reasoning/exact changes would take a whole new rant to cover, so I'll keep it briefish. Slightly more powerful DMR, to partially offset making it WAY harder to use. Everyone rejoices as they can finally move around in the open again. Competitive players benefit from fast kill times and a skill based starting utility weapon. Additionally, this would likely settle the pro/anti-DMR dispute that is currently fracturing the competitive community. The nostalgia-crazed will still prefer the inferior and random Battle Rifle we have been complaining about for years, but the fact is only one camp can pull a win out of this.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I can't really dissect it though. I can analyze and pick apart my opinion of single-player games until my tits fall off. I just can't rationalize things the same way when it's multiplayer. Balance, map design, weapons... I can't really think about how it works or what makes it any fun. All I know is that I'm having a good time with it, and leveling up is satisfying. It's still Halo anyway. Not much else has to be said on that matter. Right?

It's aiiite. I can play it enjoyably. If I could change something, I'd remove the camo (temporary invisibility). That shit is cheap.

I really liked it initially, but it's become very clear now that there's a lot of issues and Halo 4's multiplayer is essentially a cut down Halo: Reach with some bizarre fusion of CoD and Battlefield elements inferior to every game in the series.

Stuff like all the little things that worked great in the other games that have been removed or 'fixed'. Stuff like teammate damage/death markers, getting knocked out of scope view when hit, droppable flags and bloom getting taken out. Now you can't tell what the hell is happening to your team, can nail a guy with ease even while getting shot up, basically get punished for trying to play CTF properly and can snipe guys with anything that has a scope without even trying ('cept the pistol, which has some degree of accuracy loss.) And what happened to races and headhunter?

Then there's the stuff they've added.

While I'm not adverse to the idea of a loadout system in a Halo game, I am adverse to the idea of perks in one. Changing a players capabilities like that really doesn't feel right. Automatic loadout guns aren't worth using and grenades have been really messed up.

Regicide is interesting in theory but doesn't work very well. If you do well then you essentially get marked for death. Do really well and after you die, you'll be marked for death again just after being killed. If someone just so happens to feel like getting a ton of regicide medals and has a DMR, you get to get spawnkilled repeatedly for doing good. You get some bonuses for being king, sure, but they don't come into effect until sometime after you get crowned, and if I remember correctly they're time based rather than kills based. If a guy becomes king, hides somewhere and is lucky enough that the other guys are busy wasting each other rather than finding him, he gets buffed after a short while. It'd be a hell of a lot better if the king got buffs for contining to fight and kill guys. Say 1 kill as king gets you a speed boost, 3 an overshield, 5 a damage boost. The worst part is its the replacement to good old Free-for-All.

Power weapons have gone completely crazy. In the earlier Halo games they'd kick ass but still had distinguishable roles. The sniper rifle was the sniper rifle, the rocket launcher was the rocket launcher. It got bended a bit with weapons like the Fuel Rod Gun and Spartan Laser, but these guns too had different roles and strengths and didn't infringe on the other weapons too much. Now we've got stuff like the SAW, Incinerator, Binary Rifle and Scattershot, which are essentially assault rifles, rocket launchers, sniper rifles and shotguns respectively, except better in every way that matters. Then there's the crappy power weapons. The railgun comes with little ammo, is a ***** to use thanks to its charge time, epic glow and lack of a scope, and its only advantage over anything else that does what it does is its blast effect, which is pitiful. The concussion rifle's rounds are very easy to avoid and its simply weak and a pain to use overall. The Needler has gotten a decent boost but still isn't good enough to be effective at much beyond surprise attacks at a very particular range just beyond that of shotguns and too close for scoped weapons. This blatant imbalance just feels...dumb.

Then there's some more big playlist, matchmaking and game mode issues. There is only one mode to each playlist, Free-for-All has been replaced by a dopey mode, Flood can longer be tweaked to allow the zombies to have particular weapons, match searches take too long considering they don't even work well, you can routinely get put in a match with players on the other side of the world despite there being tens of thousands of players in the playlist you just joined, when searching for a match you can't check an option to ensure you don't get put in a match in progress, and perhaps worst of all, 343 didn't even add some type of old school playlist that retained the old Halo goodness free of all this crap.

Actually, there is one improvement.
Throwable Oddball.

I certainly enjoy Spartan Ops.
Every other form of multiplayer, though, I stick to my 'I don't play multiplayer' rule.
It's a shame, because this game seems to be built almost entirely around the multiplayer.
