They've already done loads of books that serve as sequels and prequels to the games, as well as a couple that run alongside the events of the games. Plus Halo Wars was a prequel, detailing the events of 6 years after the Human-Covenant War started.

OT, I don't mind prequels, or sequels, as long as they remain true to story and characters and aren't any sort of misjudged attempt at milking the cow, as it were. So for example, I absolutely love any Halo sequel or prequel, but Star Wars is getting out of hand (as if it hadn't after the books all started being written...).
Books arnt the same as games but your right, also Halo wars is what i was refering to as already made, and the other one is about an ODST i believe

They're too much of a cash in. If the story was good enough, they should be the start of a series, not made later.

I hate more when the prequel ruins the integrity of the original story.

I don't particularly like/dislike prequels - I am annoyed when games are released in confusing chronological order, though.

I don't know any games that had prequels, let alone played any. As for movies, I liked the Star Wars prequels so on the whole sure why not.

ODST Isn't really a prequel it takes place during the time Master Chief was in space during Halo 3

oh really? i thought it was during Harvest, shame because i would love them to go deeper into the conflict of the colony worlds.

halo wars focused on harvest for a while, then we fucked of to god knows where.

I really think that unless it really further's the plot or there's definently a sequel It is just the developers pumping out another game for cash.

I like prequels, as long as they don't outline what you know, and lay down the story for what you've done...

I find that prequels are best suited for stories with time lines that are vast. Best example being Xenosaga, which is a series prequel to Xenogears, but takes place a few centuries before the latter. I also enjoy, as someone mentioned before, little easter eggs for people who have played the games before it (after it?). One of my favorites being how the Final Fantasy Chronicles version of Chrono Trigger includes a foreshadowing of the Chrono Cross events in one of the endings.

As long as they solve the questions the first time around brought up about their past.. DMC 3 did that well it was how hw got the name of his shop and how nelo angelo was created,

I like both prequels and sequels as long as they can add to the story. Otherwise, why bother? For example, seeing a prequel to Valkyria Chronicles makes more sense than a sequel, but I can see either occuring. Prequels only work in games with a story that warrants it, however. You can't have a Fallout prequel effectively (there's no nuclear radiation to foil your day), nor a Guitar Hero prequel nor a WoW prequel. The big thing is that you can't invalidate your "later" games with the prequel, but you have to have enough mystery within the story to keep the game interesting.

And I would rather Halo stopped entirely, but hey. Anyways I like prequels as long as they're a good game in their own right.

I am biased against prequels in all mediums. If you can't make the backstory interesting on its own or include it in the main attraction, don't bother explaining it.
