Yes, I do like it. It is a cool universe that I can in no way, ever, afford. PC RTS gaming will have to suffice.

In actuality, the Emperor's body was broken in his fight against Horus, at the very end of the Horus Heresy. His supporters managed to get his body interred in the Golden Throne, which acts as a kind of stasis chamber for his last few living cells combined with a Psykic amplifier. He survives by the daily sacrifice of a thousand Psykers and his limitless will.

Sounds like a nice guy. Can I sacrifice myself so he can live in his golden tomb for another day?

I really havn't tried reading the fluff. I should, I think I would enjoy it. I just have other books sitting on my 'must read list' way ahead of 40k.

Considering that he is the only one capable of powering the Astronomicon, and as such his death would mean the complete dissolution of the Imperium of Man and probably the creation of a fifth Chaos God, it's not so much of a sacrifice.

Very true, but a fifth Chaos God and an Eye of Terror that spans most of the Galaxy can generally be considered a Very Bad Thing, by just about everyone.

Then I remember that 8 years ago you could get 20 Khorne Berzerkers for £12 or 20 Catachans for £12. Now you charge me £18 for 10?! I wouldn't mind but they are exactly the same models!

So the dance begins again, I buy a few novels, thing about how amazing it would be to make my own stories about my own armies battlefield exploits...

Then I remember you're money grabbing buggers with a God complex.

Still can't leave the universe alone though. One of these days I'll have to collect a couple of thousand points worth of something just to put the nagging desire to bed. Maybe when the new DE come out.

I love the fluff and i love the books, i've been reading gaunts ghosts latley, The Saint Omnibus is Epic.

You should see the Lost. It's a thousand pages of pure win.

Too fething right, apart from the Armour of Contempt.

Wait, there was something wrong with Armour of Contempt? I really liked that book, especially the parts not focusing on the Ghosts themselves. Does your lack of enthusiasm have something to do with Caffran?

It was... I don't know, it just didn't really seem to go anywhere. Caffran's death wasn't the problem, these were:

- Nothing really interesting seemed to happen in the story, it just felt like a filler book between two really awesome ones. Gaunt kinda sums it up actually, when he says that the battle for Cantible felt half-hearted and unsatisfying; that basically sums up the book for me.

- It was the return to fucking Gereon, they could have done so much more with that!

- The way Gaunt acts towards the Inquisitorial treatment of the resistance. Yes, rounding them up for experiments after their brave actions wasn't very nice but surely he had to understand what was at stake. As the Inquisitor said, slim chance of there being a cure for Chaos there, but if there was, it was absolutely worth it. I simply don't understand his objection to the treatment of the resistance, it seems infantile and over-sympathetic.

- I didn't like the RIP bits with Dalin Criid. All of the guys having nicknames makes sense, but it just feels really generic: how many commando films have we seen with units of misfits who all have nicknames? Plus, it was a really OTT caricature of Imperial excesses, with that commissar and the way they just attacked the fortress in endless waves of bodies. The Guard may be ruthless and uncaring, but they're not completely stupid, as Abnett tends to show in pretty much every other Ghosts novel.

- They didn't really do anything with the Sons of Sek besides a cameo appearance, which was a disappointment. I was looking forward to some more intrigue.

Assuming that humanity falls like the eldar. Hell, the Emporer might well be re-born. Having the psychic link between his mummified corpse and his soul broken might be the best thing that ever happened to humanity.

I'm rather embarrassingly fond of the WH40k mythos, but I hold no interest in the actual tabletop game. Deathwatch, with one shoulder pad as my own chapter- a gray background, with a diagonally halved red and white shield, possibly with NMM edging (this is a golden demon piece after all) and a blue teardrop in the centre.

On a factory base, with an aquilla that has been orkily grafitied, to show who hes up against.
