For example: Sometimes I find that video games will often come with their own soundtrack with them. They will often have their own music selection of choices. I would like to know have you ever listened to a game soundtrack in your car stereo or in a music player or something like that?

I listen to them a lot with my laptop when I'm working on homework or something.

I especially like FTL's soundtrack.

Only for some, such as the soundtrack to just about any Touhou game.

Not often, and in the rare event I do. They have to have lyrics and usually be sung by a woman with an amazing voice. I've actually bought Transistor's soundtrack off iTunes just because that woman's voice was amazing. I listen to various soundtracks from a few JRPGs as well.

I don't know why, but me and instrumentals have never gotten along and since that what most video game soundtracks are... a slight problem arises.

I sometimes use background music for background music of other games.

I have more than one playlist I've made of various OSTs and game rips.

Some games just have REALLY enjoyable music.

Rarely I listen to FFVII, Valkyria Chronicles and Ar Tonelico melody of metafalica the most the first two because I love the games so much and even though I like the music I think I mainly listen to them because of it reminding me of the game sorta a whole package thing rather than just the music on its own (with a few songs being exceptions).

The Ar Tonelico soundtrack is just something very different and really shone throughout the game I guess it being such a big part of the game and story they spent a lot of time on it and it definitely shows its hard to confuse it with anything else.

Its very rare I bother listening to the soundtrack of a game even if I like the music in game its just rarely the same the above 3 are part of a few very rare exceptions for me. Then again I dont listen to music much anyway.

All the time, some of my favourite music comes from games (films, too). In fact game and film soundtracks are really what got me into music, with the licensed music in the GTA games and the vocal-centric music of Sonic Adventure 2 being what got me into 'popular music.'

It's kind of odd that games are what got me into music and now music is my primary interest.

Not really.

Most of the time when i'm gaming i'll mute it and slap on some of my own music. I never listen to a games soundtrack when i'm not playing that game.

Oh do I? 70% of my MP3 Playlist consists of Game Soundtracks. I mostly love music without lyrics.

Yes; the soundtracks for FF7, FF8, WarCraft 2, Starcraft, and Nier are all on my mp3 player. Also occasionally put the WoW soundtracks on for ambiance at home on speakers.

Nobuo Uematsu is an absolute god among composers.

Transistor, Bastion and Hotline Miami are the only ones.

I do listen to remixes from OCRemix, but those qualify as their own music, so I guess it doesn't count.

Sure. They're great for reading or walking in the woods. Inon Zur and Jeremy Soule are pretty good there.

Pretty much all my music is a soundtrack of some kind, game and anime ones mostly. I think good soundtracks automatically get the edge over other music just because of the emotional investment already there.

My favourite would be the BlazBlue soundtrack, specifically the character themes because they manage to capture the essence of a character down completely just in a 5 minute piece of music plus they have to make it suitable for it playing over a hectic fight scene. That must take so much effort to do right.

The same guy did the Persona 4 Arena soundtrack which was not *quite* as good as the BB one but hey the guy had to tailor his songs to preexisting characters years old not original characters like in BB. The Reach Out to the Truth remix for Yu is so hype.

The original shows up again in the case of mirror matches which is a nice touch

I usually only listen to radio (or something kickass like SOAD, Dragonforce or Symphony X) while driving, and then it's only EVER tuned to the local classic rock station. Otherwise, I've got either a sweet remix of a game's song, an OC remix album (I've probably listened to their Megaman X tribute album several time over at my old job.), or a movie OST playing. OC remix and Youtube are gold mines for new interpretations of classic game soundtracks.

I remember scoffing at the very idea of it not to long ago but recently i discovered video game soundtrack's have a very practically use. It has been a very though year for me as for as workload was concerned and i found it much easier to concentrate when i played some background music i consider soothing and video game soundtracks are just perfect for that since they rarely have lines or lyrics to distract you.

Some games tracks I found to be particular particular are.

The theme of Zeal, sands of time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsj5xjoLXtE And its no nostalgia despite the game being decades old, i only got my hands of Chrono trigger recently.

Snowmad theme, aka Homecoming jinx: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6rtBVSPjw0 and its more soothing variant forest folly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di6VFegOMfk Snowmads are just awesome.

On the other side of the mirage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pINz_a1jfs just so soothing

Dragon roost island: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXGGvsHq6iA All i can think about when hearing this is ''Vacation time!'' And that relaxes me.

Dark world http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoLT24KcEIY and its remix in the form of the Lowrule theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCJBI0BCIoc I haven't quite figured out which one i like more.

Chengdu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS55Laq5n3U thousand suns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_zEcQZ_c_o Orochi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmyanvPY3zQ Nemea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFTkDntqkKg' and Komaki nagaku https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sd0G9YYaqY and others from Koei

And lastly the theme of the best video game character of 2013, Simon blackquill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q0BwOvHzTk I'm not sure why I find it soothing but i just do. The ace attorney soundtrack is awesome in general and i go regularly seek up all kinds of track from that series.

I remember just loooving Eggman's E.G.G.M.A.N. theme song as a kid to the point of going the gallery just to play it and i still play it on youtube sometimes for old time sake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvERHiTfx9w

To a lesser extend that also goes for Basara's Ieyasu's theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qwqV_5p9_ Like its character that theme is just ''In it to win it''

Ryu's theme also counts even if i never played his game, heard it in warriors Orochi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jaIUlz-wNU

I also started dabbling in writing a bit, though not exactly competently. I found a music from an action packed scene helps in writing certain scenes.
