It's when you force a certain piece of your computer beyond it's recommended capabilities. Think athletes taking steroids.GamingAwesome1 said:Call me a PC gaming tard but what the hell is overclocking?
Overclocking in its simplest technical explanation is pushing a piece of hardware beyond it's designed specifications. This usually refers to CPU's, GPU's and RAM. Using a combination of manual settings for the mainboard of the computer and additional voltage, you can cause a component to run at a higher frequency (speed) to increase performance of the machine at the cost of additional wear to the hardware piece and potential overheating issues. It has potential to damage systems if done improperly but in today's world, it can be done pretty simply for the most part.GamingAwesome1 said:Call me a PC gaming tard but what the hell is overclocking?

If you're talking about the new AMD's, dont bother getting one if you're in to gaming.Sightless Wisdom said:I've overclocked my graphics card a little bit, can't remember the numbers. It seems to be running pretty well, no crashing, no burning. Once I upgrade to a new processor I might overclock that but if I get the on I want it will have six cores...no need to overclock that!
