Do You Pay Attention to Post Counts?

Its a funny habit some of us pick up isn't it? We look at a person's post count, and we sometimes makes assumptions based on them. For example, any time I see someone with over Ten Thousand posts, I tend to treat them with more respect, since they must have payed attention to the rules and been reasonable to have lasted that long.

At the same time, I tend to look down on newer posters, since I'm still suspicious of people who might not yet know the rules, or are stealth trolls.

Then there are the regulars with a thousand posts or more, and I equate myself to being on the same level as them.

Does anyone else here do this? If you do, can you think of why we might set up a mental image of a forum hierarchy?

Some times when i see someone with like 30K+ posts, I be all like "Wow, that guy has posted lots", aside from that. Not really, Though i am proud of my Neo Badge.

I will mention that it is pretty common to see people on Probation with a post count of 14 though.

Dude I know exactly what you mean and I feel so awful for it haha.
It's not like I have a very high count either, but yes, I do take it into account sometimes:/.

They're not the first thing I look at, but I just have to glance when I see someone using atrocious spelling/grammar/punctuation or when I smell a troll.

Silence OP, your post count is lower than mine, therefore not worth my time!

Nah, I take into consideration the time a user a user joined, more than their post count. I've seen people with 3000 posts but have only been members for like 3 weeks.

I tend to pay closer attention to a user's join date as opposed to their post count.

I don't treat people who've been around longer with more respect but I figure they know the site and the community better than someone who has been around a month but has 10,000 posts.

The only time I look at post counts is when I see a particularly poorly written post and I want to see just how ashamed of himself the writer should be.

Pay me my respects! I haz only been here for... well, actually 3 years, this is my 3-4 account (not banned, just lost the others)

I don't really pay attention to them too much, to me they are like "Free time counters". The more free time a person has, the higher it's probably going to be. Then again, I want to see it in the tripple figures to make sure it's not a troll.

What with forum games/RP and user group chat, post counts really don't mean all that much. Post content, though... There are a number of users who's posts regularly catch my eye due to a combination of interesting avatar and equally interesting things to say.

Post counts tend to give the wrong picture of the poster's level of posting (hoorah for redundancies). Whenever i see someone who has over 9000 posts, i know that they have either been here for a really long time, OR they tend to make really low-content posts and less meaningful contributions to threads. If they just recently joined, its more often the latter case.

But sometimes i wonder why i do not have a (relatively) high post-count, i mean, i spend a lot of time writing on this forum, but it all seems to be but a minuscule amount compared to other people. But meh, i like to think that i make the most out of each post.

usually i don't but if there's a topic that has already been done to death or a comment that looks like it invited the ban hammer, i will have a look to see their count, see if they should know better

The only difference it makes for me is that I'm actually a little more understanding when people with low post-counts get things wrong. This forum is quite a bit more strict than others, and it's easy to break a rule or two when you're new (see low-content posts). When someone with only a few posts breaks these kinds of rules, it seems more like an honest mistake than actual stupidity or maliciousness.

I try to base anything towards a person off of their content, not their post counts, though single and double digit users I am usually leery of. I tend to base my preconception of people on a combination of date joined and post count if there is nothing else substantial to base my judgment off of. Reason I do this is because they may be like me, I've been here for a few years now, and even though I haven't broken 500 posts yet I try to make every post count for something.

Only if they're really small, or if I'm modding. If I'm modding, I'd rather not give someone with 3 posts a mark since they probably don't know better, I prefer to handle that in other ways. But if they screw up again, they're going down!
The really high ones are always from forum games anyway. They don't count! (I'd actually like to see what would happen if they stopped counting...)

I never cared about post count in the slightest, and I doubt I ever will.
