I mainly look at the join date, as may people have said in this thread before me.

The reason I say this is that there are people that joined a long time ago and have low post counts. Just last month I saw someone that had joined in 2008 and had a post count of like 3 or so.

With how much I am on here, I definitely couldn't go a year and just post once.

OT: Nope, not in the slightest. It's just a simple number and I tend instantly avoid anyone who so much as even hints that it means a damn thing.[footnote]Meaning those who think someone with 8000ish posts opinions matter over someone with 400 posts and/or just because someone has a high post count means that that person is more important than anyone else.[/footnote] It is a good judge of how much spare time people have though and as you can tell, my calendar has been pretty much empty for the past year and a half.
What he said. Mine's just so high because I work at the computer.

Silence OP, your post count is lower than mine, therefore not worth my time!
well yours is smaller than mine!
Leave this place at once FOOL!
None of you are worth my time.
Now, bring me my slippers and paper before I ***** slap you all back to the "Muckraker" days. XD
*brings slippers*

...

What? I know an alpha wolf when I see one!

Incidentally, on the topic of join dates, I see mostly '09 and '10 people posting. I guess the new class of '11 have been avoiding me. Peh, seniority, post count size... This isn't highschool XD

"His points are very valid, he's presented his opinions well, and he's been polite and sincere in response to criticism.

... But he only has eighty posts. NO RESPEK FOR YOU!"

I only look at a person's post count when I'm wondering whether or not their current post is an attempt at trolling. Basically, in a "not sure if trolling or..." situation... if the count is low, trolling is more likely. If the post count is high, the... other option... is more likely.

No I don't really look at posts since, from past sites, I have come across real ass' and massive trolls that haven't been banned by findiing loops holes in the rules

Only if they have post counts under 250.

That's the potential troll/dumbo stage.
*Ahem*. Thanks.

Anyway, not really. If I post maturely, then people with lower post counts than I can too. The only bearing it has on how I treat them is if they had less than 10 or something, then I'd welcome them.

Ah, I remember the time when I first joined the site over a year ago and seeing people with 15k+ posts and thought I would never get there.
Lololo.

OT: It doesn't mean anything, it's incredibly easy to raise it without breaking the rules.
Lemme guess, you hang out in the RP/Forum games section?
That'd explain why I've never seen you in my life.

I was kinda of thinking about that too. After I read someones comment I'll give a glance to their post count, usually to surprise myself. Sometimes I'll see a real smart comment and find the poster only has 11 post, or find someone trolling and seeing they have up to 5k post. So even though I still look at the post count to judge I find its to random to even matter judging anyone by post count.

OT:i really don't care about post count...except for the ones that are blow 300ish. cause those are trolls/douchebags/lurkers
but if it's because they are new then i don't care
Or maybe they're just normal people who are new to the forums? That's a pretty asshole (-ish?) assumption you got going on there.

I used to. Not so much now.

However I'm vary of people with less than 1k posts. That's the potential troll/too-good-to-be-true stage.

I don't like being grouped into the troll category but I can see why people would.

OT: I don't pay attention to people's post count due to the fact that mine is so low. That doesn't mean that I don't know the rules because I do and I've been lurking these forums since before I joined and I will most likely continue to lurk. Unless I feel I can add to a topic then I won't post meaning my post count will be forever low on this site.

Wow, how can I resist throwing in a post here? Almost everyone here is going to be rather wary of me, it seems. Funniest thing is that I joined over a year ago (wait... was that two?)
I guess I just don't post much because I'm rather terrible at the whole "communicating with humans" thing. Most times I post I either get entirely ignored or shut down in a quite amazing fashion. And this is when the total number of times I've posted things on the internet could quite possible be counted on my fingers.
I write up a usually long winded post that I think gives a an intelligent and interesting viewpoint, and then one of the two above options occurs. Goodbye self - esteem.
Not that any of you really wanted to know that.

On topic, I frequently do look at the number of posts. For me, however, when I see anything over 1000 posts, I think "Holy crap! How do they find the time for this?! How do they find that many things that they find interesting that they think they have a worthwhile viewpoint on?!"

Which is why I find this forum secretly terrifying.

Not so secretly now.

My eyes tend to dart around a lot so they do fall on post count often but I don't think much of it.
Pretty much this, I always see them, but I think nothing of it. It's the same thing as Gamerscore on XBOX, it literally means nothing and people who think it does are just trying to grab anything they can to make themselves seem better.

Post count doesn't mean shit after the user groups and forum games. It used to mean "something" which was how much you have posted without being banned. I have also been here for ages and the troll stage doesn't end at less than 100 it ends about less than 5,000. Even then there are exceptions. Most bans I have seen are around the 1,000 mark. There was a time when Gone Gonzo was a big deal. You know when it stopped being a big deal? Actually when I got there. When I got to 1,000 the big thing was 10,000 how's that for a kick in the grapes?
