I made my character Asian on my first playthrough of Fallout 3, playing good. My new evil character looks a bit more like me but doesn't have any common personality traits. So I guess I take elements of me and put them into my characters, but not the whole picture.

I'm a guy and I always create male characters, never try to make them look or behave like myself however. I find it too hard to relate to a female character and for me it breaks immersion as it is a constant reminder that I'm playing a game.

Basically yeah I play as myself, who has a uncanny ability to use swords in Oblivion and guns in Fallout 3

Yeah I recreate myself for the first time, the second time I just let my imagination go wild.

most rpg games that have customizable characters have the player staring at the character's backside through much of the game. I'm a straight guy, so I'm more apt to stare at a fake female's backside than a male's backside thoughout the game only if there is no difference between the genders.

Meaning if the game gave different strength to agility ratios due to genders then I would probably go for the one that is more agile than strong.

An rpg that allows you the freedom of choice your talking about gives you the option to end playing as both yourself in one playthough, as a jerk in another, a paladin or rouge the next.

No, I always seem to make a fantasy character of extreme good or evil... Let's face it if it was me nothing would get done

Maybe I'm a soft hearted girly man, but I actually feel emotionally compelled to do the right thing in videogames, it stings my conscious to, say, beat up children in fable, or kill the freedom fighting feral ghouls in Fallout 3.

I play as myself as I have some difficulties putting myself in someone else's shoes.

Also because I really, really like myself.

If there`s an option I choose bad. I like to be the exact opposite of real me. Evil is just so sympathic (in my opinion). In jobs, I almost choose a rogue/thief/assassin with some magic abilities (spellblade from Oblivion). And from races. I choose Khajiit (oblivion), some elf-dudes or dwarves. So evil it is! Ooh, almost forgot. I call them Reaper. Yup.

Why would I want to play as a thin, pale nerd when everyone else in the game is a muscled superman or a tiger?

See this I get ripped off for... Sometimes I play RPGs and make my character as hot a woman as possible. (I'm a guy... ) The question everyone needs to ask themselves... Who's ass are you going to be staring at for hours?

I dunno. I'm silly, hyper, and fun in real life :)D) so in my games I make a character that's out of the ordinary, or just plain stupid...but not stupid in the sense that it doesn't make sense...you know what I mean? Imaginatively stupid. Saints Row 2 was great for this.

My friend, who is like me in almost every way, is the exact opposite of this. He names all of his characters after him, he models them after how he looks, and he acts as he would when he plays as them.

Each to their own. ;]

i generally create 2 characters with an RPG, one that isnt me to blow through the storyline, usuaully a blue haired female who does all the right things for the sake of making people resond in ways you want to to benefit you, and another character that i try to get looking like me who is the perpetual bastard who backhands children in the game and gets a jolly out of stealing everything.

and i sold that kid to slavers in Fallout 3. What does that say?
