Today's RPG's allow for a great deal of personal choice - what should my character look like? What kind of skills should he/she have? Should my character be good or evil? Games like Fallout 3 allow you to essentially put yourself in that situation and act as you would act.
But are your choices motivated by what you actually feel; by what you would actually do? Or are your choices motivated by your desire to make your character a certain way? I myself have found that I have an idea of what I want my character to be like before I start playing. I then act accordingly in game. I usually don't base what I say or do on what I'd actually do in that situation.
So what do you guys do?
