Do you play "Good' or "Evil" when given the choice?

I don't usually bother picking one unless I'm forced to. I tend to just do whatever I want, and if it makes me good or bad in the game's eyes, then so be it. I'm not a big fan of in game morality systems to start with.

I agree, the morality system is too Black and white with barely any neutral options in the end

I like to play evil if I'm no longer really caring about the consequences, but I find that in games with moral systems like that the good karma path seems to give better rewards.

I'm generally always the good guy. However I wish there would be more shades of grey in there.
Edit: Esp. in some of the Star Wars games.

Morality systems were fun when they first came out, just because in every game up to then you ALWAYS played the hero, so not being the goodie goodie was a nice change of pace, at this point im pretty much over it, that said I do tend to play the "evil" side when I play a game just because... though I will play SWTOR

Generally evil, because usually I hate 99% of the characters anyways. Though if there's better stuff you get for being good then I can restrain myself.

This thread again?

*sigh*

I'll be good the first time around then go evil. Sometimes I'll be evil first but usually I start off as a good guy.

The more that I can distance myself from the characters in a game, the more evil that I play it. In Morrowind, for example, I stole everything worth selling, and I killed anybody not essential to my mission (i.e. a ferryman who stood between me and his sweet hat).

I tend to always play good the first time through
but my character never really gets the personality i want.
would be good to have a few really varied shades of grey...
still looking for a really evil dude who finds redemption by some mad self sacrifice in the end
theres people like that but none by choice

Good First, then 2nd play, I'm as Yahtzee put it, The Ponciest Ponce to ever Ponce a Ponce Shop
Lmao. 'The ponciest ponce to ever ponce past the poncing parlor'?

OT: I always pick evil the first time, then good. Somehow it's just more satisfying to be bad. :)

I always play good my first runthrough. If the game is good then I'll play through it again as an evil character, but very rarely does that happen.

However, if there is an option to be a thief character I will always opt to do that, since I love stealth and I think breaking into somebody's house, stealing all their stuff, and getting out without being detected is awesome. Unfortunately, very few games do stealth well. Actually, now that I think of it the only games that have ever done stealth right were the thief games.

Well, one of the people who knows me best once turned to me in the middle of a whiskey-fueled political debate and said, "dude, you do realize that everything you've been saying fits into the Chaotic Good archetype, right?"

Which also tends to be how I play. Basically nice and well-intentioned, but with a certain irreverence for conventional moral tropes. The Robin Hood type, I suppose...and I'm just going to stop this right now before I make myself out to be even more of a colossal geek than I already am.

Usually good, in some cases, like in InFamous first time I played through it, i was the bad guy, but cmon that was only cause black/red lightining looked so much cooler!

Im always the bad guy because to me its just seems way more fun to play that role when most games have you be the good guy and make you donate to charity and help little old ladies across the street.

So if i get the chance I would rather steal from the charity and push the little old lady into open traffic lol

I find it VERY hard for me to do evil in games. I feel too responsible for my actions (if it is a good, deep game). I just can't handle the guilt.

I always end up picking the boring "good" option. Not really sure why, but I always seem to.

I usually play good, because the story alway seems made for that choice, but then I'll go back and be a complete bastard to everyone I see.

Well, I've always held a deep admiration for the paladin/noble warrior type characters so I generally try to choose the most just path. However if the game is good enough to play twice then I'll usually be evil the second time around.

But I really hate being pointlessly evil so I generally try to play as a character that does bad things when there's something to be gained. Besides evil points anyway.
