Do you play Guitar Hero, if you do, then do you actually play guitar? If you don't, then why not? (if you can play guitar hero on expert than you can learn to play guitar.) I use to play Guitar Hero madly on expert, until I got my Epiphone Les Paul. Now I just play my guitar madly while my old plastic six string gathers dust in the corner. I used to be proud of being able to play "Crazy Train" on Guitar Hero, but now I ACTUALLY CAN. (even the solo.)
I have gotten good enough at guitar that Guitar Hero is not fun at all anymore, yet somehow, I feel like Guitar Hero prepared me for guitar, at least the really simple stuff. (Not stuff like Malmsteen, which I can play, by the way. Sorry if I come off as an ass, but this is just the skill i'm proud of.)

Has this same thing happened to you? If you play real Guitar, is Guitar Hero fun anymore?
If you play Guitar Hero, are you interested in playing a real guitar?

I played Guitar Hero, and then I picked up the bass guitar a few months ago. It's much better.

I play both Rock Band and real guitar, though I do admit I'd be much less likely to play guitar in RB if I had my guitars with me where I'm living now. Most of my recent time with RB, however, has actually been on the drums, which is an instrument I don't have in the real world... though, thanks to RB, I would like to get a kit at some point.

Does my slight real world ability have any impact on playing guitar in RB? I'd say yes. They're far from the same thing but they do have enough similarities that I do at least sate a little bit of my guitar playing thirst from picking up the plastic axe when I can't pick up my real one. I also found when I started playing RB, I couldn't play on anything less than Hard simply because it wasn't enough like playing real guitar. I kept hearing and trying to play the notes that weren't there on the easier charting.

Yeah, Bass is fun. Though I only bothered to learn a single riff. It's the main Bass riff of "Aeroplane" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I learned it by ear though, at least that's something.

More of a bass player, but i can play guitar to a degree. And played both rock band as well as GH.

Oddly, I can only play guitar or bass left handed and upside down (just the way I taught myself how to play) but I simply cannot translate that over to a guitar controller.

Honestly, Its rather limiting to play the game version, Obviously for only having 5 keys, but beyond that, its also very unrealistic as things such as timing are usually very much off of how you would actually play a song in order to feign complexity to keep it an enjoyable game exp. (though rock band is a wee bit better in this respect)

I think I might be able to handle playing that new guitar game with a 6 string, but who knows. We shall see when i get it

I played real guitar for about 4 years before I found out about guitar hero. I thought it looked kinda stupid until i played it at a mate's house and it was fun. I played like 5 songs on medium then moved straight to hard when I first started playing.

But now I don't play much guitar hero/Rock Band just because I'm over it i guess. I still enjoy the rare session of The Beatles Rock Band cause I love their music so much.

I'll do the parenthetical part first.

No, that's a ridiculous statement to make. Playing something on five coloured buttons does not equal playing something with 6 strings and 12+ frets. Flipping a flipper does not actually equal strumming, and there's a lot you simply don't get out of a fake guitar. Sorry. Some skills do translate, but that doesn't make it an analogue.

As for why? I'd bet that the attraction to music rhythm games is the ease with which you can take to it. Since you can get the "feel" of being a rock star without the effort and all that. Probably why people play Madden but don't play real football.

Honestly, I've played guitar for years and still find GH/RB fun. I've been a vocalist for like 20 years now, and still like singing in these games, even if it's more rigid. The only instrument I really don't do in real life is drum. They're all fun on Rock Band, still.

I play both, I guess. Haven't gotten around to getting the new GH games, nor a new real guitar.

I guess playing GH may have prepped you for coordination for what each hand kind of does. But that's at the very most. Sure GH is fun. It's a game. I played guitar before I played GH, and they're all fun. I don't play either as much now, but still?
