Personally i stick with fantasy and within that genre i prefer high fantasy but i also like science fiction not so much speculative science fiction. But peace and war wasn't bad.

I mostly read whatever Classics I can find. I've liked Fantasy in the past, but today I mostly read political commentary.

Historical fiction usually based around war. I'll also read a bit of alternate history, which is a nice break. Currently I'm reading the Brotherhood of War series by W.E.B. Griffon.

anything accept for books about girls overcoming diversity through some magical fairyland only they can see.
because they are so rare[/sarcasm]

Edit:
Oh, and I hate books about pussy vampires.
a note to all vampires.
your primary functions are to kill, eat, sleap, and rape, you have been given the tools to do these things for an eternity.
go fuck shit up, dont whine about its sooooo horrible to be eternally young and have an endless number of women who want to have sex with you..

Fantasy and Science fiction are tied for first.
I also like many of Robert Ludlum's(The Bourne Trilogy) books.

Nearly anything. I like horror, comedy, philosophical (The Fountainhead)... anything that grabs my attention. The last book I read that I couldn't put down was Everything is Going to Kill Everybody: The Terrifyingly Real Ways the World Wants You Dead. You can imagine why it was so captivating... but that wasn't even a novel so it doesn't count.

I loved the Artemis Fowl series, that nice mix of fantasy and good ol' corporate intrigue, with some nice characters, who develop a whole lot through the series. Other than that, I've enjoyed the Halo novels. The story's elements may not be very original, but I think it's done well. They're also the closest look you can get at the inner workings of the Covenant, and how the various races think of and interact with each other.

(alternate) historical fiction, (Cornwell, Manfredi, Iggulden), fantasy or "true history", but those aren't really novels

Sci-Fi and history mostly, though you'll be hard pressed to find a genre I haven't dabbled in.
