How well do you remember the loss of your console virginity?

How old were you?
Which console was it?
In what way did you get it? (Present? Bought it yourself? Passed on to you?)
What games did it come with?
How would you feel playing that console and those first games now?
Do you recall being excited? How long did you play it for the first time (rough estimate)?

To answer my own questions, while I had played Segas, Nintendos etc, they all belonged to cousins and friends, my parents didn't see the need for consoles.....that was until there was hype surrounding this new CD based console, the PS1, all my friends were getting it and I got one for Xmas, I was overwhelmed with excitement. My OWN console, though I felt bad for not owning my own Nes or Sega systems, but its not as if I missed out on those. I got V-Rally and Crash Bandicoot, awesome games, play them rarely, but when I do, it brings back so many memories. Yup, those were fun days, guess I take gaming for granted now, not as fun when you can buy any game or console you feel like buying :/

How old were you? I was... I think 6, possibly five
Which console was it? The ps1
In what way did you get it? My parents bought it for me because.. I think it was just for being awesome
What games did it come with? One of the first tomb raiders, digimon world, and spyro
How would you feel playing that console and those first games now? I'm going to assume tomb raiders would be much easier when I play it no, digimon is something i want to play but can't find, and playing Spyro would probably ruin my nostalgia.
Do you recall being excited? How long did you play it for the first time (rough estimate)? I remember jumping up and down in the Toys-R-Us line. Not sure how long i played it for the first time, my parents were always strict on bedtime

I was quite young and it was an NES. I vaguely remember unwrapping it at my grandparents and taking it out of the box, but that's it.

I was about 6 or 7 at the time. I dont remember really. I remember my dad taking me to a K-Mart just outside of town, he told me we were going to get some groceries and I might get something good. I was a kid so I figured a new action figure would be SWEET. When we got there he picked up the usual things and walked to the electronics section of the store and talked to the man at the counter, pulling out a large SNES Box, with that my dad got me Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and Secret of Mana. I dont remember much about my life from 7-9 years old. So cant tell you how excited I was. It was a blur of games.

I believe I was 5.
My first console was the PS1.
My parents bought it for me.
The games that came with it were Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and 2Extreme
I'd feel pretty nostalgic. But then I'll realize how much those games have aged since then.
I'm pretty sure I was excited. But I don't remember how long I played for the first time.

I was about 7, I got a PS1 for Christmas and I got a snowmobile racing game and a spiderman game with it. I still like to play it occasionally especially since it still runs very well. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty excited, I had to have played all day until my bedtime.

Christmas, 1994, Maryland. Dad got himself, my two sisters, and me a SNES with Super Mario All Stars with Super Mario World. I was only just old enough to be able to know that this was better than the grey NES we had, and it's colors were vibrant, it's gameplay exciting. I still have that SNES, and that copy of Super Mario All Stars. I just played it two weeks back, when me and a bro did a SMB3 run. My life as I know it know had just begun.

I think I was in middle school, so I guess I was 12.

My mom, brother and I were running errands at the mall when out of the blue, my mom says, "Hey should we get a Gamecube while we're here?" Everything after that is a bit of a haze, me being in a state of shock at my mother willingly buying anything related to video games and all.

We got a package deal of GC + 2 games, so we went with SSBM and Pikmin.

My brothers and I played for hours on end, unlocking all the characters in SSBM and trying very hard not to die in Pikmin.

I still play Pikmin every so often. SSBM not so much.

How old were you? Maybe 6 or 7.
Which console was it? A Sega Genesis.
In what way did you get it? (Present? Bought it yourself? Passed on to you?) Given to me by our upstairs neighbors.
What games did it come with? Sonic The Hedgehog (awesome) and The Little Mermaid (actually not a bad game, in retrospect...huh)
How would you feel playing that console and those first games now? See above. I still have a genesis emulator and those two games. Lots of good memories.
Do you recall being excited? How long did you play it for the first time (rough estimate)? I'm afraid I can't answer either of these. I don't remember...

In about a week and a half, it will have been exactly 20 years ago. It was my fifth birthday, and I imagine I'd been a little shit. My mom was reading me a story, some Franklin book about going to a birthday party, when my dad yelled down the hall that her TV show was on. She said that she had to finish the story, but I, feeling guilty for being a little shit, tried to make up for it by saying that she didn't have to, since she'd read the story to me several times before. After a bit of back and forth, she gave in, but told me that I should come down and watch it with her. I walked into the family room, and there on the TV was the title screen of Super Mario Bros. 3. I, of course, freaked the hell out, completely forgot to thank my parents, and sat in front of that game for a solid hour before I was dragged off to bed. The NES also came with Tetris, but that was more for my mom, who loves puzzle games. I didn't really enjoy Tetris until several years later.

If I could get my hands on an original Nintendo and Super Mario Bros. 3 today, I'd probably completely neglect my PS3 for a few weeks in favor of it.

I do not remember.

My earliest gaming memory is of me sitting in a bean bag chair while my family and some of their friends watched me play Super Mario Brothers on the NES...while holding the controller upside down.

For whatever reason, I thought that was the right way to do it. I played with the controller upside down for every game on the NES.

Let's see. It was my first Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and a wonderful one at that. It came with some Terminator game that I can't recall, another arcade shooter, F-zero, Yoshi's Island, and Tetris Attack. Sadly, I only kept the last four games since my mother thought those games looked violent.

The only other thing that I can remember is "Where the fuck do these colored cables go?", I was four years old at the time.

Depends. Does the PC count? If so:

It was the first family computer my parents got, an IBM 486. I was about seven at the time. We got it from a local computer salesman/repairman, who threw in a few pre-installed games on the machine, including X-Wing, King's Quest V, and Wolfenstein 3D (though my parents made him delete the latter because they thought it was too violent for me. It was probably for the best, since I got motion sickness when I finally got to play the game years later).

It didn't take long at all before I started haggling my folks for other games though, and I spent many happy hours playing other classics like Tie Fighter, Red Baron, and A-10: Tank Killer. Fortunately I still play many of these games, thanks to programs and services like DOSBox and GOG.

If the PC doesn't count, then it would be an old Vectrex unit a friend of my parents gave me for free when I was eight years old. It came with nearly twenty games, including Asteroids, Armor Attack!, Hyperchase, Bedlam, Clean Sweep, Scramble!, Space Wars, StarHawk, etc. Oddly enough, many of the neighbor kids coveted it in spite of them owning Super Nintendos. I guess it just goes to show how sometimes the simple games are the best ones.

Unfortunately the Vectrex gave up the ghost due to wear and tear. I'm sorely tempted to get a replacement unit from Ebay just so I can play those timeless games again.

Hmm no I don't remember getting an NES, it was probably mostly bought for my brother who's a couple years older. I just remember playing games for it.

The first console I really remember getting and taking out of the box was an N64, and I was very happy about that. I think it was for Christmas and just came with Mario 64 at first.

I've still got all my consoles, the NES is crappy condition though and isn't worth the effort to try to play, easier to find another way to play those games. N64 still works great and its games are fun once you get used to the graphics.

It was the N64. I was around the age of the last number of the year it came out. It was a birthday gift I think. First game was likely Mario Kart. I was very excited. I occasionally still play it as it is hooked up in the dining/second living room.

How old were you? 7, I think.
Which console was it? The Original Nintendo Entertainment System[/b]
In what way did you get it? Christmas Present
What games did it come with? Solar Jetman, which I hated and traded with my cousin for a game I can't remember. Might've been SMB3. I think there was another game with it, but I seriously can't remember what it was.
How would you feel playing that console and those first games now? I never like the game in came with in the first place. As for the console itself, I actually wouldn't mind. I just wish I could figure out what happened to it.Do you recall being excited?
How long did you play it for the first time (rough estimate)? I was initially confused as I opened the game first (I liked to save the largest present for last), but when I opened the console, I was very excited. No clue how long I played it.

I remember it well, I was 4 when it happened, it was a SNES, It was a gift from my grandparents, it came with one game prehistorik man, I remember it being a lot easier then when I played it, I remember being so excited I couldn't sleep that night, And I must have played it for about three or four years before I traded it for a PS1.
