An NES back in 1988. God I loved it. Playing Super Mario Brothers and Bases Loaded with my dad are some of the best memories of my childhood.

Ah, must have been around 11 to 12 when I got mine (I played SNes9x a lot as a kid). It was a Xbox, Limited edition (crystal plastic meant I could see the recoil spinning in my controller.) It was Christmas I believe. The first game I ever played on it was Project Gotham. THat only lasted about 20 minutes, since I had other pressies and I wasn't used to gamepads.

It was all hugely exciting, but not quite as much as buying my own choice of games. I think the first games I got for myself were Project Gotham 2 and Ninja Gaiden. One of my best gaming choices ever.

Ours was an Amiga 500 household- I got that for Christmas when I was 7 and was utterly delighted with it. I remember first opening a smaller present from my dad's brother- it contained Operation Thunderbolt (Operation Wolf 2) and Galaxy Force 2, a Starfox-esque space combat game. I was confused until I cracked open the Big Box and found out I had something to play them on :)

My first -and to date, only- console was an Amiga (I was nothing if not brand-loyal) CD32. I saved up and bought it for myself in 1995. It served me well but in those pre-internet times there was no Amazon.co.uk and none of the games shops I knew of sold any games for it. I eventually found some in a corner of a random games shop a couple of years later (I made do with the 8 or so games it came with and various magazine coverdisks in the meantime) and I managed to get Banshee (scrolling 1942-esque shooter) and Liberation: Captive II (Eye of the Beholder style first person RPG set in the 29th century with upgraded skill ROMs bought from hardware shops instead of XP). That cleaned out half the shop's stock but they were the only two truly good games released for the system so I was happy.

Happier when I got a PC, mind ;)

i was around 10 when i bought my first console, the playstation. i got crash bandicoot with it and played for a solid three hours. i had played video games before and did so regularly at my friends house (N64 and SNES) this was the first one i ever bought and it was truly awesome. and it started a love affair that continues to this day... but my favorite console that was bought for me was definetly my sega genesis, that thing totally kicked ass.

I was five, it was an Atari 2600, and my uncle gave it to my brother and me for Christmas. It came with Missile Command, several flavors of TRON, Centipede... and a bunch of games that aren't as fun as those.
It still works, and it's hooked up in my den. I played Missile Command on it recently, and I still love it.
As for how long I played it the first time... my parents severely limited how much time I was allowed to put into entertainment back then... a half hour a day, if I remember correctly.

I was around 6
Nintendo 64
It was passed down from my uncle
Ocarina Of Time, Mario 64, Golden Eye, Turok, Mario Kart 64, Star fox, Perfect dark. (did i start out with great games or what?)
I remember feeling aggravated when playing Zelda, i couldn't figure out how the hell to get into the Duko Tree (sorry if i missed he's name up it's been years)
We played it all night me and my younger brother had a Mario Kart tournament.
That start the rivalry between us, and got me hooked on RPGs

I arrived pretty late to the console scene: I got my first console about, I think, when I was around 10, maybe younger. It was a Playstation 2, given to me by my parents as a Hanukkah present. It didn't come with any games, but I got with it (as presents) two:
- Secret Weapons Over Normandy
- Star Wars: Starfighter

Both were flight games by Lucasarts. Neither were bad, but I don't see myself replaying either anytime soon. Well, granted, Starfighter got scratched, so I couldn't replay that one if I wanted, but I also have Jedi Starfighter, which is pretty much the same mechanics, but better. The first unequivocally great game I got for the PS2 was Ace Combat 04. It's aged pretty well in every way except graphics, but I can't help but remember my younger self missing every single one of its subtleties, and in general being...well...a useless prick. Heh, I guess the only person I hate more than myself is my younger self. I'm tempted to say this is a good thing, but I still don't like reminding myself of those times. I do, however, remember being quite exited. No clue whatsoever how long I played it the first time. Probably something like 45 minutes.

Actually, by the time I was able to purchase my OWN console and PC I was already considered an adult by societies standards and moved out of the house. Why was that? I grew up with four older siblings and two over-bearing parents. Nothing was actually mine if it was in the house. It all just seemed borrowed. lol

I got a Mega Drive II for Christmas when I was eight. I'd wanted one for a long time and I was thrilled, though I think the most thrilled I ever was with a console was my third one, the N64 I got for my birthday when I turned eleven.

If you count it as a console, a Gameboy with Pokemon Red and Blue for my birthday when I was 6 or 7. I had fallen in love with the show and, since these were the days before I was on the Internet, was unaware that Pokemon games existed.

If you don't count handheld's as consoles, then I guess I haven't lost my console virginity.

It would have been around 1991, so I would have been 6 or 7. It was a Sega Master System which my older brother bought for me when he bought himself a Mega Drive. It had Alex the Kid and Road Rash built in if I remember correctly. I have fond memories of it, but would almost certainly be disappointed to play it again. The controllers were really crap, so it's probably best consigned to nostalgia.
