Do you remember the time that the CG cutscenes was the real reward for playing the whole game?

I remember when unlockable weapons, suits, gadgets, maps etc. were rewards for doing something awesome. Now they turned those rewards into DLC with a price tag. Fuck all of our lives.
Is it safe to say that, "You never asked for this"? Seriously though, I hate when they do that.

Yeah, they were pretty cool. Sometimes.

The problem nowadays is that A) we don't really need cutscenes anymore strictly speaking seeing as how most of anything can be rendered in engine and still look pretty good and B) where they are used, there are just too damn many of them. I mean, I can understand their use for the most part but generally I don't like to lose control of the game and I HATE it when your character does something obviously stupid in one (looking at you resident evil).

So they just aren't special anymore, I suppose. Oh well.

black had great cutscenes that breifing room was a great plot driver
does anyone remember kessen 2 or anything by koei for that matter, the voice actiong was bad the gestures were wayy over exaggerated. Zhuge Liang was soo cool
Honourable mentions : suikoden three and zone of the enders (both)

these werent cutting edge cutscenes but what they did good was give closureto the awsome thing you just did, seguay, then introduce the next.

After I read the most comments from my Thread I have some things to say:

Yes, of course I think the important part of a videogame is the gameplay. That why I said is one of the reasons I like the old videogames, are the CG cutscenes. Not the only one.

And of course I agree now in our days most of the well-known games have already many cutscenes and you feel overwhelming about this.
But this is also a good point why I like the old formula. Quality versus Quantity.
Sure, if you watching many game-engine cutscenes in games like Mass Effect Franchise, of course it wouldn't matter. But what if in some part of the games had High Quality cut-scenes like the Mass Effect's promosional trailer "Take Earth Back" [knowing of course it is difficult task with your custom character]?
