1. Do you smoke? Okay, so what made you decide on the brand and particular flavor you use?
2. And how many other brands and flavors have you tried?
3. Is it true that smokers always order the same kind of cigarettes?
4. Why? Isn't it more fun to try something new once in a while?
Thing is, I don't smoke, and I don't plan to start, so I'm curious about all of this.

I smoke sometimes, especially if I can get the cigarettes for free. Smokers are pretty generous when you consider how much a pack costs, at least in America.

-For me, it's not so much about "What brand do i want to stick with?" and more "What brand do I avoid?" I'll smoke anything I haven't tried yet but I've pretty much crossed anything from Camel off my list. Marlboro is pretty decent. I like Newports a lot for some reason. I think its the menthol.

-I've never seen any smokers I know switch brands on a whim. I'm sure there are a variety of reasons for this one.

-I've only bought my own cigarettes a handful of times and I usually get something different every time. Then again, I'm the kind of guy who would drink 3/4th of a pot of coffee, two shots of gin, and a few scraps of roast beef for breakfast so I'm a little odd.

I used to smoke socially a few years ago, and everyone rolled their own, which was way cooler than buying packs. I just wanted to try it out at the time and did enjoy it in moderation, it's too expensive and bad for your health to get hooked on. And a few years ago I couldn't legally buy tobacco so that probably stopped me from getting addicted further.

1.Yes. I smoke single primetimes when I drink. Having it singles really makes sure I don't smoke too much. Packs makes thing complicated.
2. Bullseye, Captain blacks...not sure.
3. When you have that comfort zone, it's a good place to stay.
4. I'm not saying that smokers won't try new stuff. Heck, I've tried new stuff. (Always experiments with cuban cigars if you can). I think it's really a comfort zone kind of thing.

Nope, haven't tried, don't intend to.

Besides, my chain smoking older "sister" would kill me if I were as stupid as she was.

You think they're expensive over there?! Lemme ask you a question, how much does a pack of 20 cost? In Sunny UK, they cost $5 FFS! So yeah, I'm with you, I only smoke once every so often and only really when I'm not the one paying for them (I'll buy alcohol in return... not that it's much cheaper, if at all).

Also, menthol cigarettes, while I disapprove them on a 'manliness' level, I actually prefer them, because I, rather unfortunately because of a prior habit, smoke cigarettes like I smoke my pot... by inhaling and deeply at that. They don't mess up my trachea so much. -_-

Anyway, I gave up smoking (as in regular habitual/chain-smoking) about nine years ago (yeah, started young, finished young) and these days only smoke when I'm socialising (but only in loud places, oddly) or stressed.

EDIT - Having seen the replies... I so should've known about 'inflation'... -_- and holy shit prices have shot up since I gave up! :/

1. Yes. It was just the first brand I smoked, my friend's dad smoked them at the time and we stole his when we were young.
2. A lot.
3. Most people tend to stick to one brand. Most people I know will buy different brands now and again but will always come back to that particular one.
4. Cigarette brands taste different and are different strengths and you become accustomed to your own one. It's like preferring tea or coffee a certain way.

Edit: Oh, I never mentioned, I'm a Marlboro Light girl.

Much like most smokers I've gone through several brands: Camel, Marlboro, Parliament, Nat Sherman, cloves, menthol, err..American Spirit, Drum (roll yer own), and Dunhill. I just like the headiness, although I don't smoke as much today. Now I just smoke Marlboro ultra lights, which are just one step above below breathing regular air.

I would try out a brand and, after a long period of deliberation, realize that cigarettes in general taste like ass. Hence the Marlboro ultra lights.

And drinking, primarily beer, is usually what gets someone smoking I think. That's how it was for me. Cigarettes and beer go together so perfectly for some reason. Probably because you can't taste them when you're buzzed.

I will never smoke, why would I? It's fucking stupid. I personally think smokers are idiots. I have family who smoke and I make it my duty to bug the shit out of them about it in the hope that one day they will quit.

Oh yay mild stress relief that costs Hundreds or maybe over a thousand pounds a year. Not to mention it cripples your health, makes you more unattractive and is hard to drop. Seriously it's one of the things I absolutely hate in this world. Things like smoking and excessive drinking pisses me off. People paying to have irreparable damage done to themselves.

WHY DAMNIT!?

I've started to 'regularly' smoke very recently actually. Gonna quit New Year though(Y).
I've heard about all the brands I've chosen, so I just...chose based on reputation. I'm currently on Mayfairs, but Camel Blues were nice.
I've tried about 5.
Dunno. I like to try different ones though. But if I find a particularly good one, I'll stick with it.

Yeah don't start smoking.

I don't smoke, but let me ask you a question about the brand thing, OP: think of a food or drink you like. Do you have a favorite brand, way of preparing it, or restaurant that makes it? Same thing.

1. No I don't smoke. Never tried it either
2. See 1
3. I can't speak for everyone but the people I know who smoke regularly tend to stick with the same brand.
4. As others have mentioned cigarette brands have different tastes and strengths so that's probably why. Same as someone having a certain drink when they go to a bar or ordering a certain meal at a restaurant I guess.

Nope never smoked never seen the point. I smoked a bit of weed in college but it got me high, cigarettes don't even do that. I've never seen the mentality in it, you're basically paying a company hundreds of dollars a year to kill you slowly.

To get on topic my grandmother does smoke and sticks to one brand. It could be linked to brand loyalty, like how some people only drink Coke or Pepsi and are convinced the other sucks.

Don't smoke and never have, though on the brand front I will arbitrarily side with Camel simply because an album I like [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33jGRaZZ1Jk] has a cover reminiscent of their cigarette packet covers. Besides, alcohol is my preferred means of slowly poisoning myself to death. :D ... :( ...Anyway...

That's a fair point actually. I don't get fast food all that often, but when I do I always order the same thing. I guess since I'm know I'm not going to be there often I'd rather pick something I know I'll like rather than be a bit adventurous.

i used to smoke (back when you could buy a pack of ten for £1.50) was never a heavy smoker but loved a smoke first thing in the morning with my coffee and with a pint.
quit when the ban came in. no patches or nicorette tabs or whatever, just saw everyone in the pub march outside to smoke in the freezing cold and thought 'sod this' and ive never looked back.

personally i used to buy my death sticks based on price and strength. when the price of a brand would inflate i would move on to the next most comparable brand that was cheaper.

a deck of twenty costs over 7 pounds now i think, what a rip off!

most of the smokers i know stick to roll ups as you get more out of the packets.

ive tried many different brands and types from the bog standard ones to some eastern european ones that were strong and tasted similar to cigars, cigars themselves and those horrible menthol ones.

yeah its fun to try new things but at the price these are i guess people dont want to gamble on a new brand only to discover they dont like them.

also smoking sucks and kills you :p
dont ever start!

I don't smoke, but I went through a phase during my second year of uni where I'd smoke a few a week, either when drunk or just bored and wanting something to occupy me for a bit when I had nothing else to do.

During this ridiculous time, I'd buy Marlboro reds, purely because it's the only type I knew for sure how to ask for.

1. Do you smoke? Okay, so what made you decide on the brand and particular flavor you use?:

These days I don't smoke cigarettes. Instead I smoke a pipe. My tobacco flavor is 'John Hunt'. I buy it from a local old fashioned tobacco store--not one of these discount tobacco stores and they don't sell regular cigarettes. I also smoke Clove cigarillos. I like both and discovered them by trial and error (hey, bum me one of those? Thanks. *puff*)

When I smoked cigarettes I originally started off with Marlboro Lights because that's the brand my friend I bummed them from smoked.

2. And how many other brands and flavors have you tried?:

Many. Sometimes because of the price, but also for sheer availability.

3. Is it true that smokers always order the same kind of cigarettes?:

Most become accustomed to a single brand and tend to stick with it--just like people prefer certain brands of beer or candy, etc.

4. Why? Isn't it more fun to try something new once in a while?:

Most people do. I did. The tobacco shop where I buy my things is something of a hang out for men (and the ultra rare women) who want to sit down with others and puff on cigars or pipes (I've never seen anyone smoke a cigarette there and I've been going there for well over a decade now). The owner, a man named Robin, invites customers to bring our pipes and try out different brands of pipe tobacco for free.

NOTE: The people who shop at this kind of store aren't moochers so he doesn't have to worry about anyone abusing his generosity. You don't get moochers among customers who are primarily middle aged men who tend to buy cigars that routinely cost $5 apiece and upwards of $20 apiece.

Thing is, I don't smoke, and I don't plan to start, so I'm curious about all of this.

Understandable.

Don't start. You'll be happier in the long run.

I don't smoke.

Had two grandparents (smokers) die from lung cancer early in my life, so I've never been even tempted to try.

I know where you´re coming from and technically agree with you but I still have to tell you to please go fuck yourself. People oversimplify smoking so often. Most of us know exactly what the consequences are and we know we´re idiots about it. We continue because we´re addicted. I was an idiot for starting, correct, I did so in a weak moment and have regretted it ever since, but quitting is not such an easy thing to do for heavy smokers such as myself. You can quit for a while but whenever you´re in a bad place and you just don´t give a fuck about your health or your finances (and I have quite a few of these moments) you´re going to start again. It´s easy for some people to quit or only rarely smoke, for others such as myself it feels near impossible. Just pisses me off to constantly be called an asshole for something I´m doing my best to quit. And I don´t generally smoke anywhere near other people and never inside either. Except for rock shows, because fuck it. It´s rock 'n roll.

OT: I mostly smoke Lucky Strikes these days. After a while you´ve gone through most brands and you know what you like. Simple as that really.
