Do you start a new game on easy and then change or start on normal?

Does anyone beside me try a new game on easy, to get a good feel for it, then change it if it's too easy or just start on normal?

I always play on normal. No matter how hard or how easy it is.

I have this weird idea that that is the difficulty the game is supposed to have.

I usually attempt a challenging difficulty 1st. Halo 3 I started on heroic, Gears 2 I started on hardcore etc. I will then turn to the hardest difficulty if I enjoyed the game, and if I have another play through for fun I will often go to easy.

Nope, I always start on normal.

Except with some RPG's, where sometimes I can't be arsed about the combat and simply turn it down so I can go do RPG stuff

Depends on what game it is. If it's a shooter/horror game I always go for hard (not extreme though). If it's strategy or RPG I do normal and then adjust.

If the game has 3 difficulty settings, I play on the hardest. If it has 4 I start on the second hardest then move up. If it has more I start on the second or third hardest and adjust accordingly.

Because I'm super pro 1337 hardcore like that.

Hard if possible from the beginning, If not normal.
Games are made way to easy these days.

I did when I'd just bought my playstation so that I stood a chance while getting used to the controller. I used to be a a bit of a nintendo fanboy with the N64 and the Gamecube, luckily I've become older and realised my faults(plus I can afford more systems), but it meant that the position of square and circle wasn't hardwired into my nervous system. Over the last year or so I've pretty much caught up and now start on normal.

Used to do the easiest difficulty as a kid (Cos I sucked at games and only cared about the story), then moved on to doing games through on normal at first then hard eventually. Since Darksiders it's the hardest difficulty ASAP for me, if you need to unlock the super hard mode it's a quick playthrough on normal followed by a proper playthrough on the hardest mode.

It's more rewarding to clear the game on hard, tho I only started doing so because 'hard mode' usually comes with a special achievement.

I always start on normal, but after completion I tend to play on a harder difficulty, but it would make it just as easy, because I would know what to do

Start Normal, if it was a fun game I'll try the hardest mode. Like in Halo, I went: Normal, Legendary, Hard and Easy (for shits n' giggles) Although Bioshock was annoying on Hard because you just respawn in an annoying way.

There is no Easy in Dawn Of War. But Normal IS easy. So actually, if there are three difficulties, the middle one is the normal one, not the hard one.

I play pretty much every game on Hard from the outset. I tried playing Halo on Legendary on my own once because I thought I could - I couldn't. With CoD games I tend to start on Hardened and then go back and try it later on Vet.

To be honest, I prefer games that just don't have a difficulty setting at all.

I'm a jack of all games, master of none, so Normal for each. Never met a game that was too hard on normal, rarely found a game I could play on hard.

It depends what difficulty actually changes. Most of the time it's just enemies having more health and doing more damage which can get annoying on the first run through. I have nothing against harder difficulties changing gameplay mechanics or adding more enemies etc.

That said I usually go for hard settings as I like a challenge but if it draws out bits way too long I will go for normal.

I always start on normal so I don't get frustrated by the game for it's retarded difficulty in some cases. Sometimes the hard modes difficulty is just so arbitrary and unfair that it can be rather discouraging to keep playing the game if you start off in hard.

I alwas start on the hardest difficulty, without reading the instructions, then I get the crap kicked out of me, read the instructions and lower the difficulty
