Do you still like Nintendo?

I don't know if this was a repeat topic, if so I'm sorry, but after watching the latest video from Jim, I started to think about my feelings towards Nintendo.

Were you at all excited about the 3DS or the Wii U? Are you waiting impatiently for Skyward Sword? I sadly am not and Nintendo was the game company that made me a gamer to begin with. I am not happy with their choices and changes, I prefer controllers, not Wiimotes, with my Zelda game play, I don't want to buy the same game that I played over 11 years ago when I first became a gamer on a stupidly gimmicky handheld. Over the years as I've grown older, my fangirlism for this company has tragically crashed and burned and someone danced on the ashes.

I've always wanted something different from them and never got it, so I gave up on them, I'm never buying another game from them again. I am a huge fan of the Zelda series and already those feelings are slowly going away, in the past I'd be so anxious to buy the newest zelda... but after Phantom Hourglass, never picked up Spirit Tracks. I have no desire to get Skyward Sword, the reason why is the control. I chose the gamecube version over the Wii version of Twilight Princess because its more fluent and somehow more nostalgic than a wiimote and nunchuck with an already crappy sensor bar on my TV. But I'm just bitching now so I'll change the topic.

The localization issues of those three JRPGS everyone wanted is another big thing, sure, they don't seem like the kind of games I'd enjoy personally, but if others do then that's alright. I'd so certainly play those over the newest mario or zelda, because it's DIFFERENT! A breath of fresh air for my already dust gathering Wii which I only use for my old gamecube games. I play my Ps3 more than any other of my consoles because it has the widest variety of my game library and fun, interesting games with different stories and characters in each. When I was younger, I never dared to give anything but a Nintendo console a chance, now I don't care about my childhood idol and clearly will not care if they fade away because people get tired of Mario.

But, I will always remember my fun days where I would play Majora's Mask in my room, or Mario Sunshine when I first got a gamecube. Back before the Wii was even a thought. I will forever love the games that drew me in at the start, but once Nintendo itself is gone, if it ever dies, I dunno how I'd feel. I'd just live my life like I normally do now.

(For those who didn't want to read my bitching, I'm simply explaining my annoyance and growing hatred of where Nintendo is going, I want to know if you're sick of the same old same old from them and want something new. Or if you're just tired of the company entirely. Explain your thoughts and feelings.)

I have never gotten a Wii, as it has never appealed to me, but if a friend calls me and asks if I want to play Mario Kart or go a few rounds of Super smash brothers I will nearly always agree. I still have fun with my Nintendo DS lite, but I do agree with you about Legend of Zelda i still remember as a small 9 year old being over the moon when my dad said he had bought Ocarina of time and I spent many happy hours with him playing it and getting an euphoric rush when we beat Ganondorf. Now, when I hear Legend of Zelda I don't feel that same excitement any more, which I find extremely sad. It could be that it is because I am not that 9 year old little girl any more, but I feel like it whenever me or my dad decide to play Ocarina.... So while, I don't dislike Nintendo, I still have a lot of fun playing games on the DS, I don't feel that giddy excitement anymore. I think what I hate more is that I have grown up. That feels very sad.

I am sorry if this is rambling and doesn't quite make sense, but it is how I feel.

Meh, I believe I kind of grew out of Nintendo. It's been with me most of my time growing up, but at some point I just kinda stopped playing it. I still have a DS, which I barely use, and I won't be getting a 3DS or a Wii any time soon. Guess that the novelty and nostalgia just wore off on me. So I guess I'm neutral.

i'm indifferent on the subject surely Nintendo should have come up with new games but I don't blame them i blame the public because there buying it and Nintendo is just making what is selling.

I have to admit, I still love Nintendo. 'Cause so far, all their games have been loads of fun, and a welcome change of pace from the usual, brown, gritty third-person-shooters that seem to spread like fungus.

The Best game the wii had was Metroid Prime 3: Curruption(In my opinion, every other game I found very disapointed with, except NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams and Mario Galaxy. Nintendo had smart marketing for the wii. It appealed to everyone. Heck I have a wii that collects dust beside my X box and Sega Saturn, why.... because I thought the wii was going to appeal to a more "hard core" audience.

After companies learned that the hard core gamers were using PC, 360 and PS3, thats where all the big titles go. Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3. And what does the wii have... Skyward sword. The wii even managed to almost destory a beloved franchise with Metroid: Other M, which I almost bought because I love Metroid games but I just knew I would be disapointed with it.

I like it, still.

I wish they wouldn't be assholes about importing things, though. I'm considering doing something to protest that, like buying my 3DS and Skyward Sword used or something, cause I do still want those things, but fuck them if the reason why they're not bringing over those three JRPGs is because they wanna focus on Zelda, 3DS and the WiiU.

I just wish Nintendo would make a more powerful console. If the Wii was capable of playing Xbox 360 games then I would've only bought the Wii. I know they say the Wii U can do 1080p but I'm skeptical.

I do love me some Mario and Zelda, but that's probably has more to do with my growing up on Nintendo. Growing up with Nintendo makes me feel about Nintendo like I do my parents. I seem to have grown out of really enjoying their company but I still love them.

Completely and utterly indifferent.

I don't actively dislike Nintendo at all, but I also have absolutely zero interest in them or anything they make. They can do what they do and I will do what I do, and there is no need for us to have anything to do with one another.

For what it's worth, I remember enjoying a couple of their games as a kid, Mario 64 in particular. But, well... I was a kid. Back then I also thought The Phantom Menace was the best movie ever made. So yeah... hardly a compliment

Was I excited about the 3DS and WiiU? Yeah. Do I still like Nintendo? Yep. But then, I didn't grow up with Nintendo. I played the re-release of Mario 1 on the GBC and that's it (well, Pokemon too and I still enjoy that). I had a Genesis growing up. I didn't have a Nintendo console until I got a Wii.

And the umpteenth Zelda, Mario and Metroid titles are a change how? It's gotten laughable how easily we'll applaud something for being 'different' even if it's damn near the same game we've been playing since 1986.

I do actually like Nintendo, and I'm not actually that mad at them for not changing up the franchises much. Now, call me a fool for biting into the hype (and I'll admit that I am being one) but firstly Skyward Sword does look kinda different, what with it's Sports Resort esque movements for the items (finally, all those hours mastering fencing pay out!).

And I do like motion controls as well, I see real potential for them, and of course controllers and keyboards will still have a place, but I welcome this sort of controller innovation.

I also appreciate that Nintendo got so many people into gaming, I think that is really brillaint, I mean, I can convince my grandmother to play Wii Tennis with me, but will she sit down for Gears of War? Of course not, because it wasn't marketed to her at all.

Someone here posted this in a previous thread. The same is true of Mario and Metroid.

But according to every Wii fan and their mother, graphics aren't that important. So graphical improvements therefore aren't that big of a deal.

Well, I think it really needs emphasis the fact that Zelda, Mario and Metroid aren't grey and brown, it doesn't matter if a colourful aesthetic has been done tons, colourful is something that doesn't get old fast. And where they're not innovating in games, they certainly are innovating in controller.

The Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 or Xbox. Not sure by how much but it'll certainly have HD.

As for the Nintendo hate I just feel like the fans are just blowing everything out of proportion. I mean take the motion controls; do they improve the games? Not at all. But do they ruin them? No not really.

With a lot of Wii games the motion controls are admittedly unresponsive pieces of crap, but Nintendo themselves has the decency to make them work well. Never once when playing Mario Galaxy or Zelda TP did I think the motion controls took away from the experience, they were just a thing.

Then you get people saying all Nintendo games are the same. Now I'll admit that they don't deviate from the original formula much, but the original formula works! The content placed upon this formula is usually quite original and is always very well designed. I'd like to see them take more risks as much as anyone else does, but I don't think their games are suffering from the lack of innovation.

Ah, what they mean is graphical technology isn't important, as in faster processers to make ultra-high def stuff. But this is aesthetic improvement we're talking about, which is how nice something actually looks, the colour and everything. Graphics technology is the quality of the paint and paper the artist uses, aesthetics is the quality of what he actually paints.

The original Nintendo controller was awesome. The SNES controller was essentially the same with a couple more buttons. The N-64 controller was an abomination. The Game Cube controller wasn't all that different from every other controller at the time. And the Wii-mote...well. It certainly made them them money, didn't it? If it makes money, that clearly makes it a good thing, right?

Graphics aren't important, that's why the image uses the word AESTHETICS. Every Zelda game has a radically different feel, visually and for game play.
Then your only argument is Wind Waker. Outside of that, the 'aesthetic' is the same, just better looking due to all those faster processors. It's called natural progression and one Zelda game broke that. The rest followed it.
