Ok before this thread gets derailed into a grammar thread, I hardly play originals because usually the sequels are much better. When BioShock 2 comes out then I'll still play originals because I love the first one so much.
it wont now, changed the spelling =D

Every now and then I still will play the originals. Mostly the older half life games. I played the original Halo lately, too... and found many parts of it to be more fun than the recent games! whaddya know? Though thats probably just because it's relatively new in my memory. And new things are always more fun

I like to dig up the atari 2600 from time to time and play some of my childhood favorites. "Pitfall", "Dig-dug", "Centipede". I also like to break out Final Fantasy VI about once a year and play through it...It's like re-reading a really good book.

I have beaten the Abe's oddworld games 3 times each, and God Of Thunder twenty times.

I play originals all the time. Original Super Mario Bros. Original Mega Man. Original Super Smash Bros. Sequels aren't always better. And sometimes a sequel can be extremely different from an original (for better or for worse).

I still play Call Of Duty Classic, and when i had a 360 I'd play Halo: CE a good amount. That was the best game in the series IMO.

I play Sands of Time and the 1st Max Payne a lot, as well as Deus Ex 1. They're amazing.

Firstly, I'm a grammar Nazi, so sorry, but it's 'original', not 'origonal'.

But anyway, I still play Super Smash Bros Melee and Morrowind - I think it's because you become so accustomed to the old layout that you just prefer the nostalgia trip of the prequels.

Also, with the indirect sequels like Morrowind, it is a completely different game, with completely diffenrent challenges to face.
Different, not diffenrent. Sorry, I'm a grammar Nazi too!
On subject, yes. It is very refreshing for me to take a look back at previous games. Most of the games in my list of top ten favorites are quite old.

I'm replaying Knights of the Old Republic right now (not literally at the moment)to check out the Yavin Station downloadable. However, I do literally have KOTOR 2 running right now just to try out something else I haven't done previously(and to check for any problems with the Xbox 360 emulation).

I'd play more if Microsoft updated the backward compatability list, even the bad games just to see what little they had to offer.

Yes, I still go back and play originals. Every now and then I will play through the original Half-Life. I have Castlevania and SMB on my Wii. On occasion a few friends and I will play Halo:CE.

Why not? Not all sequels are similar/greater than their ancestors. For example, Viewtiful Joe is better than Viewtiful Joe 2 and Final Fantasy I is both different and superior enough to its sequels (not all of them mind you)

Well I'm currently playing Half-Life (No not as I'm typing this but just in my spare time) because I bought it off Steam after my love for half-life 2...and I was getting into the webseries called "Freemans mind".

I love my current gen consoles but I do get tired of all these new fangled 4-D, interwebby multiplayer, anti-analised games.

At times like this, I thank Miyamoto-san for the existence of Virtual Console. All of these amazing games, with characters that actually had character, gameplay that was intuitive yet complex, soundtracks that were simple yet beautiful and all of this without the need to use 50 separate buttons in order to complete the damn thing.

I suppose this ramble is a sign of my advancing years.

Sigh, if only they made proper games these days.
