for the most part, sure...but most of the time it's not like he's exactly WRONG, just overzealous about making a bigger joke of a smaller flaw.

QTEs are fucking annoying wastes of time..."Why the fuck couldnt i kill him myself instead of dodge bullets for 20 minutes of cutscene at 1 button press an hour"

JRPGs, while i generally love them, are all at their core still about whiny prepubescent jackholes. We're talking about a culture that CENSORS THEIR OWN PORN. Of course they skank out their barely il/legal emo heroes...

The sequel reviews hes done are all true. As a practical person, i also have to ask "Why am i paying face value of $60-70 for a 'new game' that is basically a shorter and less fufilling copy of the one before it"

The big thing with his definition of "bad games" is that games are like life, stupid and retarded, but should be sweet and simple. because those are the games he likes--the one-subject games, or games that really are built around one thing..like portal (puzzles revolving around a 2-way portal gun), shadow of the colossus (using a sword, a bow, and your horse to kill giant stone & 'fur' monsters) and batman arkham asylum (utilizing stealth and technique to take down enemies). now THOSE are great games; the closest to "perfection".
The other thing about games is their made to have fun with. thats why i play them. thats why i play smash bros., use cheats on goldeneye, mess around on halo 3, fiddle with the programming on star wars shadows of the empire, etc.
he probably understands this though, just doesn't give a crap because he's in the business of humor, and that SHOULD be his focus, because we all know that games are fun; otherwise we dont really play them other than competing. like he said, "...you didn't come to me to hear about how a game is good, not when every other review's done that already."

so yeah, the bloke's funny and makes us hate the british, good job, now i'll probably go and play more mass effect.

Yahtzee tells the people what they don't want to hear, he tells how Halo is a generic space marine shooter with no actual quality. How Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is desperate to be controversial that they make everything in the game little more than DLC.

People will think that Yahtzee is bad reviewer, some will think he is a good reviewer, to me Yahtzee is a reviewer who points out the flaws in high profile games that other reviewers ignore.

It's not like he ever lies about anything, I think people just don't like hearing the truth. Personally, I never took Zero Punctuation as anything but a grain of salt, you'd have to be retarded to take him serious, he's bias and it's obvious, but hell, I think JRPGs are trash, fighting games are button mashing bore fests.

That said he's the only reviewer that I actually read, normal reviews are just boring, and often feel like they've been altered by hype or pressure from developers.

There is quite a bit of hyperbole involved in Yahtzee's reviews. Yes, a game has some flaws, but that alone isn't enough to toss it into the incinerator.

Meh, I watch it for the laughs.

I could care less on what he define as a good game, or a bad game. He diss a game I like...then he dissed a game I like.

Most of the games he reviews that I've played I actually tend to agree with, like the recent one of Bioshock 2, and I even checked out Prince of Persia because he suggested it on one of his vids and I loved it, but I completely disagreed with him on a few like Oblivion. Loved that game.

I take his points into consideration. I like how he doesn't put the games balls in his mouth like IGN, Gamespot, and X-Play. Although I have usually rented the game, beat the game, told my friends the game is good/bad before he reviews it.

I don't understand this. He needs to be passionate in his opinions or he isn't fun to watch.
Reading an Extra Punctuation wherein he mercilessly savaged a person?s opinion without giving them a chance to contest it and his relentless treatment of everyone's opinions as inferior to his own let me to conclude that he is a very self-centered and narcissistic person.
First, he hasn't actually done that in many of his XP articles. Second, that he responds with the attitude that he does is not a problem. That?s really how everyone seems to talk on the internet when their views have been poignantly criticized. No, what is potentially a problem is that, as you said, he does not give them a chance to respond. In forums the other guy gets to retort, of course. This fact, however does not strike me as Yahtzee being narcissistic but as him simply approaching the whole responding to criticism thing half-heartedly. Perhaps no responses would be better than some but with no follows up. One way or another I remain firmly unconvinced that Yahtzee is narcissistic.

Sure, it was endearing for the first while, but now it just annoys me as I watch it, to see him fondling his own ego.
Again, he needs to be passionate in his opinions. It?s a persona he adopts in order to be entertaining (whether that be in ZP or XP). His fans do not want him to change. None of this means to *have* to enjoy it but it can hardly be called "fondling his own ego".

I've noticed it too, sounds like time is getting closer and closer to when the murders "will" begin...=/

A lot of the games he hates, or says is average is best, are games that I really love. Bayonetta, Valkyria Chronicles, Bioshock 1 and 2.

I just see his videos as comedy no more or less. You gotta love his sprites.

No, I take them as the absolute truth. Infact, I have written down his gaming words of wisdom into a bible form, which I keep next to my photo of him, in the woods, under my shrine to Yahtzee - surrounded by the limp, rotting bodies of the squirrels I sacrificed last wednesday in a bid to please the almighty review God.(GUOTE)

Wow I did the exact same thing except on tuesday.

I agree with him for the most part. Although he definitely has to make his reviews entertaining, and that means being quite harsh at times.

He's being paid to be a critic. If he just gushed about every game and talked about the good parts he'd literally be like. every. other. reviewer. A willingness not to just let problems go and beyond that a willingness to actually be critical about things, especially when most of us might just say, "well that's just what the industry is doing!" puts him apart.

Look at it this way: Most reviewers will tell you what's good in a game.

ZP instead asks "what could have been done better?"

Just watch the Fallout 3 review if you doubt me- he actually likes the game but he does give multiple instances of parts of the game where there's an obvious disconnect.

I do take his reviews with a grain of salt... However, if I'm on the fence about whether or not to buy a game he can steer me one way or another. Usually toward saving my money. And he's convinced me to buy a couple games that I probably wouldn't have otherwise like Silent Hill 2.

I do like JRPGs which he has a hatred for and i'm sure i've liked a couple of the other games he's torn apart.
