It can definitely matter. But sometimes it doesn't. I just got out of a relationship with a junior (I'm a sophomore)that crashed and burned because she was experienced and it was my first relationship.

No I don't think age matters. Just as long as you know, they aren't 6 and you're 20 something. That never goes well with the authorities >.>

Another vote for "as long as both people are legal consenting adults it's fine" over here. If a 24 year old and a 60 year old are happy together, that's their business, not mine.

I both love and hate you for linking that. Love because that was funny and I'm reading more and it's also funny, and hate because I'm going to be up way too late reading now.

Legally, possiably. Morally, as long as both people are willingly in the relationship, it is fine and dandy.

For some people, this is serious business. For others, like a gay friend of mine who likes to date middle-aged men (he is in his 20s) it is less of a concern. In fact age, a bit of success and some maturity is probably attractive to him.

What if it's illegal and we ask you to join in?

As long as they're not idiots, I'm fine with it. I know 14 year olds who can handle relationships better than alot of adults i know.

(In before stupid age differential equations)
age/2 + 7 IMO.

In all seriousness, my take on it is that the age of either party really doesn't matter in a relationship. Large age differences are certainly unusual, but there's nothing inherently bad.

I go by the half age + 7 rule...I'm 25, which should open up 19 1/2 to 36 year olds. The formula scales my potential companion range as I age, and seems to always end at a decent combination.

If you go waaaaaaaay back in time to say The Romans, girls of 12-13 were frequently married off to older men because of their fertility. From a purely anthropological standpoint as long as a lady is able to have children there is no reason why she shouldnt (talking survival of the species here when it was'nt uncommon for Romans to die before reaching 40). Modern socitiy deifies age inapropriate relationships for some reason.

Personaly i stick to the "half my age plus 7" or "half her age -7" rules. (im 24) Anything over or under that just brings about to many problems imo.
People were still quite happily giving away their daughters at 14 and under a little over a century ago. Hell they still are in some parts of the world.

I'm 24, my girlfriend is 34, we have been together 7 years.

In before NICE

I wouldn't however recomend such a relationship to most people. It has it's issues.

Once you get over a certain age, I don't think it matters. But it is kind of questionable when a 16 year old girl is dating a 22 year old man. You kind of wonder what the 22 year old is in the relationship for.

Buh...wha? If the two know each other and everything's consensual, +1 badass old dude.

As long as it isn't creepy I'm fine with it.

I mean when I was fourteen I was in a relationship with a person that was eighteen. That's four years. My friend got lucky and found himself a 24 year old while he was 18 (but he looked like a 22 year old) they've been together for a long while. Age doesn't really matter...unless the kid is like 14 and being tricked by a 30 year old...

It matters a lot more when you are younger. Dating a highschooler is usually taboo for anyone who is over 20, but there are a number of cases of people marrying other people who are over 20 years older, or younger than them. Maybe it's just for the money, but IMO, love transcends all.

And someones age is kinda part of "all"

There isn't anything wrong with it, although if you grew up in completely different times then their views would be quite different. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not ideal for an intimate relationship.

The age gap should be 5-7 years maximum. Otherwise... i guess it just makes me think its wrong...
