Hmm, i think my female friends who play are as good as my male friends, granted they're all terrible so that might not be the best example.
Any difference in skills would probably just be from comfort zones and cultural norms. Im not better than my friends at L4D because i have a bigger "man organ" im better because im twitchy and shoot the most of everything.

im a guy and whenever i hear another guy saying that girls are shit at games or that no girl could beat them at CoD or Halo i will slap them on the back of the head. Girls and guys are equal! sure a guy may be better than a girl at a game, but ive come across CoD games where a girl has been better than me and im fine to admit it! i have no problem playing online with girls, if you have xbox PM me your gamertag because i have left 4 dead as well!

I've yet to meet a girl who was a good gamer. With that being said, I certainly don't mind playing with one or against one, and I think there are some out there who ARE just as good, if not better, then guys.

But, like I've said, I just haven't met any yet.
Ninja'd, if I had $1 for every girl who claimed she was amazing at a game, only to suck at it, i'd be too rich to care about girl gamers being pants at competitive gaming

Yeah there was this Geordie lass playing a match on MW2 on my team, she was just as good as any guy. I don't mind who I play with, but I will hate on anyone with leet speak names.

Girls get a bum rap with no good reason. The only thing that sets guys out from girls is the stereotypical gamer. Nobody thinks girls play games well because they can't be gamer nerds based on the rules of the stereotype.

If you weren't a girl I'd accuse you of trolling, OP.
What does it matter which gender a gamer has? Some of the best gamers I know are women. I really don't even understand the question.

Um, Mass Effect is genrally classed as an RPG. Just saying.

OT: Well I havent met any girls who play games are obbsesivly as me I know one who play Minecraft and Civ 5 and is much better then me at them. SO no, while I may be surprised if a girl says she likes gaming, I wont think any less of her skill in it.

I don't see how gender would impact how "good" one is as a gamer...
It differs from person to person.

Do you mind facing a girl online?
No, why would I?

How old was he?

Oh I have, groups of them. Whether it be playing TF2, Gears 2, or MAG, I've met a shit ton who just destroyed everyone. I have a bunch of real life friends who are girls that play video games, and about 60% of them are better than any male gamer I know.

So OP, girls playing video games are just as good. There aren't as many, but the numbers are growing.

As a girl I just have this to say:

Who fucking cares what your sex is!

Can we please stop confusing sex with competence and/or skill, please?

My fuck, I'm so tired of idiots judging solely on the sex of the person, it's so fucking stupid I just want to bite the head of a hamster!

A cute furry hamster. D:<

I've had a few girls rather epically hand me my ass on a silver platter, with garnish and a bit of Béarnaise on the side.

They can be either terrible or awesome, just like any other gamer. I've seen it.

As for the OP's questions:

I have never knowingly met a good female gamer; I have played against many.

I think being a decent gamer and a girl is a much more of an underground thing than it is with guys. Much like gaming in general was, 15 years ago, seen as an embarrassing thing to do, gaming as a woman is seen to be embarrassing.

It's not thanks to the men though; it's thanks to the other women, the ones who don't play. You come across women all the time who claim to be amazing at games and turn out to be crap; that behaviour however is only seen when there's more men than women. It's an attempt to find common ground; you can either appreciate it for that or resent it for the manipulation, whichever seems more natural to you.

I have not met a girl who (and I think i'm quite a good gamer) i've beaten (exept my mother) and although i have encountered some half drunk girl double teaming with guy and guy team killing me for going to near girl (whom I kill and get booted) most girls I play against kill me again and again... and although I always try and get first place but never manage against a female gamer... I have met a few obbsesive girl gamers (Damn their ability to spot pick-ups first in resi 5) but yeah I find female gamers just as good if not better than guys with the exeption of half drunk double teamers as i said... (morrow-wind is one of the greatest RPGs if you havn'nt got it...)

Just 2 days ago I was in an online team match in halo 3 with a girl with the tag "iKaren". She got the most kills out of everyone on the team. I think many girl gamers are actually better than guys, mostly due to their increased thought capacity.

In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
Should have offered him a hug. The threat of "cooties" would have been enough to have him in the fetal position repeating the words "Can't get me here, can't get me here, can't get me here" for a few hours.

In my experience, girls can be just as good as guys, although I find that many girls have a more cooperative mindset, leading them to really shine in co-op or team oriented games.
