Speaking from a girl's perspective, I think they certainly can be. I am really new to first person shooters so I'm not great at them, but I am pretty good.

If someone has an interest and/or passion for video games, they tend to be pretty good at it, regardless of gender.

I don't know many girl gamers, but the feeling i get is that they (like the OP) prefer RPGs.

And about that guy who left when he realized he was playing with a girl, clearly wasn't someone you would want to play with anyway. Clearly, it was his loss, not hers (despite her legitimate feelings of being treated unfairly).

I was playing BlOps zombies, and I died every round why a girl gamer was destroying. She went eleven rounds. and I=she said it was OK that I kept dieing. It was just us two, too.

It depends on the type of game. Men's brains are generally better at spacial awareness, which would be a plus in games like first person shooters. Women's brains generally more adept at language based skills, like memorizing words or responses, so they'd likely be better at remembering weaknesses or responses early in a game.
Actually, there's an aussie psychologist by the name of Cordelia Fine whose research apparently suggests that there are no practical differences between the male and female human brain, save those which are the product of environment, rather than inherent differences. Given how much you can alter someone's performance just by getting them to think about certain things beforehand(we, as a species, are remarkably easy to psych up or psych out), this strikes me as a very plausible conclusion.

I met a few female gamers, they all seemed good and I don't consider them bad, I don't see why people hate girl gamers. It could just be the inflation of little kids online who at their age hate girls and think they are "icky".

To answer your question yes I think they are good gamers, as good as boys are from what I see.

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Yes and no, it's the same as with Male gamers there are both good and bad, gender has no role in this matter. Take my other half for example, she can regularly be found wiping the floor with a group of guys on BF2 and BFBC2

Do you think they are as good as boys?
Please see first answer.

Do you mind facing a girl online?
Being a console gamer myself and a PS3 gamer at that, I've not come across many girl gamers on the games that I play, those that I have found have played well (occasionally beaten me) and are generally good fun to play against.

A couple of my best friends are girl gamers and they've kicked my ass plenty of times in some games. Gender doesn't matter when the question of being a good gamer comes up.

My girlfriend is absolutely unbelievably skilled at Call Of Duty it scares the crap out of me! She manages 11 kill-streaks with absolute ease...still beat her on Halo: Reach though ^_^

Gender doesn't make a difference to me on how good a gamer you are. It just depends on how much time you spend on the hobby and how much you like it. You could be a guy and suck at games (I've seen that before). You can be a girl and be one of the best gamers I know.

EDIT: However, I find girl gamers (who aren't competitive psychotics) tend to be more fun to play games with because they have such a good time if they enjoy playing.

Well, being (probably) one of the many, many, many...actually let's just skip forward, suffice to say many manys later, prepubescent twerps who have no business on the game anyway he was likely of the mentality that 'girls are icky'. <- wow that was long for such a low payoff. Meh, it's lateish and I'm tired.
But I think girls are good gamers, or rather can be good gamers, well worthy of a place on the team.

I'm not sure why people still have this idea, but I really, really hope they get over it soon. Not just talking about games here, but in general. Getting a little ridiculous.

On a related note, my younger sister is basically my go-to second player for any fighting/turn-based strategy game. Good fun. Of course, there is that time in HL2 when she managed to SMG-grenade her feet off. And by "that time", I mean about seven times. Accidental right-clicks don't end well, it seems.

Being a girl myself I'd like to be classed as a decent gamer. I don't play COD, or mass effect or any of those kinds of games. I'm more of an RPG based player (if any of you have read my posts before you could gather I hate online play)

But do you consider girls good gamers?
Do you think they are as good as boys?
Do you mind facing a girl online?

I was online once and I was playing L4D some boy was playing with me and as soon as he saw I was a girl he left the party sent me a message saying "I don't want to play with you cause you're a girl"
In chat speak mind.

Judged on my sex, yet again.
There are more guy gamers than girl gamers (at least for FPS and multiplayer games) so that is the only reason girls are seen as bad gamers, or guys are seen as "the gaming gender".
But there is a shitload of girls that play WoW, and even more that play little games like Plants vs. Zombies, or like you said, RPGs.

I don't consider girls to be any worse at games, than guys. Typically, girls I meet are more likely to not play games, or not play them as much as I, but that is no basis for judgement.
I wouldn't mind playing with/against a girl online so long as she wasn't an eWhore, or legitimately bad, and tried to have her boobs carry her.

Lawl @ that guy. He probably got stuck with a boyfriend/girlfriend group, where the boyfriend plays alot, and the girlfriend doesn't play at all (just wants to play with the guy). But leaving right at the start because you're a girl? I don't leave games when I have 12 year old newfags on my team, I just mute em.
You're going to deal with douchebags online, you just have to get used to it :p

It's been said before, but I'll reiterate anyway. Gender has nothing to do with it. However, I wasn't allowed to have a Gameboy until I was old enough to buy one myself, because my parents thought it would be inappropriate for a girl to play Video Games. (They're older parents...) So I didn't get the head start that my boyfriend got, whose father was a gamer, and has been playing games since he was around three years of age. Basically, when I started learning, he already had years of experience.

It all has to do with experience. Being born a male doesn't give you a +Gaming skill. Just like everything in life, it takes practice to be good, and you'll probably screw up at first. Male or female.

On that note as well, not seeing a lot of girl gamers online seems to have to do with the treatment of women from the online community. Tbh, I've had experiences as the OP has with people leaving my team because I am a woman. So I learned to stop talking over XBox-Live. Then I wondered, if I wasn't ever going to talk, why was I even playing online? So I canceled my Gold account and only co-op with friends.

To be fair, the guys who harass girls are in the minority, I know. But it still got to the point where I found it just wasn't worth putting up with the bias, and I'm sure I'm not the only girl out there who thought something similar.

Whoever did/said that is an ignoramus. Personally, I would rather play with girls, and I'm not being a perv, because they have tended to be more mature. I don't think I've ever been "teabagged" by a female gamer. Additionally, look at the Frag Dolls. Great gamers and probably a hoot to play with. While I respectably submit that they may not be indicative of the "average" female gamer, their skills are nonetheless impressive. Put succinctly, being female has nothing to do with your abilities as a gamer...or a soldier. Plus, the ladies are always a joy to listen to when they trash talk or curse the game/player out. XD

PS - You ever wanna game, hit me up. I'm taking the initiative to welcoming "Gamer Girls".

PPS - The post above mine is simply ignorant.

EDIT - Your skill level is indicative of your commitment. Like those sad obsessives in CoD. That or you have no job or are 12. Speaking of which, shouldn't you be in school kid, instead of teabagging me???

well i prefer playing with girls online. I have yet to find girls being as annoying or idiotic as the 10 year olds... And their mostly better than them anyway :D

As for the actual question: Gender has basically nothing to do with your skill level. If your good at the game your good at the game and if you just happen to be a girl it doesn't change anything.
The only thing it can effect is the reaction from the people with the stereotype that "girls can't play" like the obnoxious person you played with.
