Do you think SF4 is too hard?

If you've played Guilty Gear and/or any SNK fighter, their single player modes are much harder. SF4 is actually manageable. I'm still busy unlocking characters (I concede: this is an extremely dumb move, give me all the characters straight away instead of this bullshit) but I haven't had a lot of problems with any of the fights. The single player portion in just about any fighter is mostly just an afterthought. It's really just the mechanics and characters that matter in games like these.

All good points. But even on "easiest" mode i expected to sorta flip it on and burn through and unlock everything in a few days. Not to say i cant win on easiest. BUT even that is harder then i'd expect it to be. WHICH ISNT BAD....just saying.

I'd like to blame the XBox 360 controllers for my suckiness so far. But yes, it is too hard and Seth may be one of the cheapest bosses ever.
Is he as cheap as Jinpachi? Please explain for those that don't play fighting games but are still interested in them.

For those that don't know, Jinpachi has some normal attacks(longer reach than normal), a stun that's long enough for him to perfom any of his charge up moves(heal attack and energy blast), an attack that heals him and an energy blast that deals 75% of a health bar in damage. Oh, and considering Tekken AI reads controller input, the only effective way to win is to abuse glitches.(Think of the Psycho Mantis fight in MGS1 without the ability to swap controller port)
I got Tekken 5 when I bought my PS2, it's the only reason I played it.(I preferred that platformer that's unlocked after finishing the game)

It's tough, to be fair, strangely though I found it tougher on medium than I did on hardest, I got all the way to Seth without continuing on hardest, then it took me 4 or 5 goes to (luckily) beat him!

Game is frigging awesome though.

Don't worry about it, just practice up some. Same thing happened to me, although I'm younger and more of a SF3 person myself. The rythme of the game has changed since days of yore, but not that much. Just practice a bit. You'll get your "groove" back soon.

I'm not saying it's necessarily the hardest fighter out there. What I mean is, would it have such a remarkably high Metascore if it was related to any other series? Difficulty & repetition are amongst critics' most common complaints yet I hardly hear any mention of either in reviews. Everyone seems to be reviewing their childhood (allegedly) spent in the arcades rather than actual game.
You bring up a good point. I was honestly expecting Gamespot to give it their "Punishing Difficulty" medal, but no, I'm pretty sure they didn't give it ANY negative medals.

Yes, he is cheap. And the best way to beat him is to be cheap also. Just use a bunch hard kicks on him and you will eventually win. Or.....an even quicker way is to put it on one round and change the time to 30 seconds. thats the quick way.

I'm trying to unlock Gouken at the moment and it is giving me a tough time.

I did beat it on medium difficulty once though with Zangief, and yes Seth is really cheap, when fighting other characters you sometimes have the chance of avoiding their special moves, but not Seth most of his moves are unblockable, and his constant teleporting is really annoying.

First time SF player, medium difficulty wasn't that hard, its just Seth 2nd round always seems to be 2-3 times higher on difficulty level.

Cheapest AI controller character i've ever met.

I've beat Seth with Akuma on hard (after losing like 12 times), but I'm having more trouble with Seth on easy. Seriously there needs to be a patch for this guy.Saying this i still think Gill was harder (end boss for Street Fighter 3).

SF4 isn't too hard. It's perfect! It's reminiscent of the days when I used to punch $20 into a machine just so I could get my Flash Kick to work just well enough to beat Vega.

sound like a lot of players are having the same problem i am having.
Ye, i also turned off my console after loosing 4X to the same Char (mainly seth)

and if i compare that to the fact that in Street fighter 3 Alpha on the Ps1, I kept playing it on the hardest mode and took 20 attempts on Shin Akuma (not getting mad at all) i think they did a good job making lame AI

How to beat the game: Play as lame as you can(check zangief video)
will will play lame?
Nope, we just turn the game off then.

Street Fight 4 isn't too hard - it's the majority of other games that are too easy.

A year or more back this board and every other was in raptures about Portal - one of the easiest puzzle games I've ever played.

It seems today that if a game can't be completed on the first play through people deem it too hard.

Seth has patterns and weaknesses just like every other boss in every other game - sure his priorities are a tad high but so were Bison's and Gill's - That's what makes them bosses.

I suck at 2d fighters but I'm enjoying getting better at it. Still working on easy (sigh).

Problem was moving flat this weekend meant 0 time plus sore hands from lifting furniture all day.

EDIT: I was a little scared by something I'd have to work at but I'm looking forward to cracking it.

Zangief is a is a pretty good character, if you can work out how to play him. My bro has recently adopted Zangief as his character of choice, previously he was a Ken player. From what I've seen he chains the hold moves after some other moves, because if you try the 360 rotations on their own, you end up jumping unless you're very quick. I don't know if they've made it easier to do in SF4 -- he seems to think so.
And he beat Seth on medium first time (AMAZING although it went to 3 rounds) so it can be done. I had to applaud.

The lariat moves pretty much counter the teleporting from what I've seen.

side note*
(in the zangief video, he finishes the hardest mode using 1 bumper button trough out the game)

Yes, i also found that it is fun to play single player whit some friends, its just cool to see them / me try and beat the game on normal
and once a enemy starts charging his super whit your characters face going " ow shit", and every one knowing your going to die before it even hits... its just epic
