I assure you that I am not. Statistics has the unfortunate downfall of not being able to simplified, and in turn, not being able to be interesting to someone outside the field. Some concepts in Physics or Biology you can explain in an incredibly oversimplified way that most people can say "Oh, that's quite cool"; hence is the reason "pop science" exists. When I try to explain something in Statistics, not only do I have to go into several sub-rants explaining terminology (Statistics is a very jargon heavy field... statisticians like to feel smart, what can I say?), but I usually just get blank stares after I finish my enthused explanation. It's a field you only see the beauty in until you've studied for a few years, which is why most people just think its boringP.Tsunami said:You sound absolutely fascinating. Why is it that the people that interest me most here all go "oh, I'm so boring"? I don't get it.
Same goes for classical music to an extent. Unless the individual is a fellow classical music listener, going beyond Mozart or a movie soundtrack typically loses and bores people. Unless you've been around classical music, it's hard to appreciate some of the music. I suppose the unfortunate reality of having rather niche hobbies and interests is that, unless someone shares those aforementioned niche hobbies and interests, then you're basically screwed. This only becomes amplified by my total removal from pop culture.
So I guess I feel I am boring because I just can't relate to most people unless they share my hobbies.
