Do you think you should be allowed to kill kids in games?

I can understand why people dont want you to be able to go and kill a school full of kids in games. But it does break the immersion when you fire a shotgun into some annoying brats face at point blank range and nothing happens. I think they should allow it in games where it fits (say fallout) but if your really against it just make an option that makes children invulnerable or something.

Also have consequences for murdering children. I remember in Fallout 1 or 2 that even killing one child was enough to have an entire town baying for your blood.

EDIT: Just thinking about it, its probably that no developer wants to open up that particular can of worms I mean imagine the negetive (and down right hateful) press a company would get from allowing child murder.

Kids annoy me in games. I can't stand the little bastards. In Skyrim the kids have health bars. What's the point in giving them health bars if you can't even kill them? Anyway, would you like to be able to kill kids in games?
i'd love it if you killed a child in skyrim and everywhere you went afterwards random people challenged you to fights and called you names in bars and things
that would be awesome.

If they did include child killing with actual consequences, it would probably break the game. There would probably be a lot of main NPCs who wouldn't trust you with a quest, you being a child killer and all. The consequences for killing people in the game are pretty low. The immersion is already broken if you're taking it to that level.

How much does being able to kill kids really add to the game anyways? Not as much as it's worth.

I agree that it doesnt really add anything, the only times ive had problems with it are when child NPC's dont allow me to fast travel because I have killed all the adults.

Also as to the possible breaking a game due to consequences. Well thats something the player will have to live with

If game mechanics are in place that kill NPCs, or let me kill NPCs (deliberately or by accident), then It would be nice to have all NPCs treated the same.

It would make me try to be more careful in my actions, it would give me a sense of priority to protect them in the event of combat.

I would also like fully destructible environments and for stupid invisible walls to not hamper progress, its bad enough that my character cant climb, when it is already performing superhuman feats, like taking a frag grenade to the face without flinching, but its worse that I can see the my target from the top of a cliff, and yet I cant reach it because invisible wall, wants me to take a 10 minute detour.

I would like to have the option.

Or at least in the case of Elder Scrolls have a no-kid option in the menu. I'm fine with not killing them, but putting them into the game and having them taunt you is just poor taste.

Kids aren't killable in games because devs are worried about bad press. Fun fact: some people do not like the video games industry, and what would give those people better ammo than being able to say "This game is all about slaughtering children!" and actually having a piece of truth to base that on?

Because if I kill a kid in a game (mayor mcCreedy) i am totally an unstable individual who has a mental problem, right? (reference to another thread)
Just a bit, yeah.

All I'm hearing is a lot of people saying, "THE INABILITY TO CAVE IN A CHILD'S SKULL WITH AN AXE IS RUINING MY IMMERSION," which is batty.
Nope.

Oh, as reference, I haven't actually killed a kid in a game (not in any i'd remember anyway), but he's the one a lot of people reference. I just fail to see how killing a kid in a game = mental issue.

Hell, the only reason I have the child killing mod installed in skyrim is so when a town gets burned by dragons, you don't have two kids chasing eachother in a ghost town. Hell, that even pissed me off in fable, they could at least remove them from the game if the parents died. It was /weird/ having all the bowerstone children just... there. While the rest of the town is dead around them.

Are you telling me that wouldn't ruin immersion?
No, it wouldn't.

Then again I'm not the weirdo who took the time to install a mod just so he could get the satisfaction of seeing a kids dead body.
How did you make the connection from "It would make more sense that everyone died" and "ah, dogstile clearly is some weirdo that's satisfied by seeing kids die"?
How could you not make that connection?

It's exactly the same with gay marriage. They'll be asking for marrying dogs or children to be legal next.
...

You know what, shit, I don't even need to argue this anymore. If that was serious i've just lost all the will to argue. I'm far to confused as to how you can think that way.

This is a pretty obvious yes. If a game like Grand Theft Auto lets you shoot an old lady in the face I see no reason why it shouldn't let you kill kids as well. It probably will never happen though, America and society in general is too age-ist. We're content to let our actual old folks rot in nursing homes until their dying day but we'll protect virtual fictional children from coming to any harm. The sad irony and hypocrisy of being a part of this species.

Why is this even an issue. They make kids essential because they don't want morons to make collages of themselves slaughtering kids and sticking it on YouTube. Anyone who downloads a mod that enables it is just a basement dwelling freak that has some issues they need to work out. Like what goes on in their mind: "Oh boo-de-frickin-hoo I cant chop off little Timmy's head so I'm gonna go cry about it?"

That wasn't serious. I just threw another stupid connection people make when they don't have anything to say.

The mentalities of the more judgmental people in this thread are hilarious.
Awesome, I had my doubts but with how this thread has been going, I wasn't too sure. Thanks for the laugh man

Yes, but they should make you lose tons of rep fast in games that use reputation.

Because the bad guys would kill the kids too.
