It is fun to know that if you use the same username on different forums your profile will most likely show up if you search your username with google.

I saw a video on the way they treat their employees, and I trust Google. That and the fact that I have 750+ unread emails and that seems to be 0% of my capacity. I don't check my e-mail...but at least its still there.

Can't really say that I trust Google, nor any major internet company for that matter. However, it has nothing to do with Google "giving" information to the government, it's all already on the internet, all they have to do is search.

Microsoft is receiving much "hatred" from people for many reasons, my current one is this : *rumored* Windows 7 will allow users to share files and folders directly over the internet, i.e. creating a permanent web-link to files on your computer. I'm not saying that Microsoft is going to hijack all files that are on any given PC, but is it so hard to comprehend that there is a possibility? That's essentially an open invite to hackers, and it gives the government more on us, as they can simply access any computer running Windows 7 any time they feel the need to do so.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I am a "What if.." kind of guy. I work as a programmer for a living, and that kind of open ended "freedom", scares the shit out of me.

Well, Chrome would be the best if it were better at streaming videos without crashing every now and again. I will most likely use the final version as my default browser, though.

I trust Google at the moment. One of their company mottoes, though is, "Don't be Evil," so I'm not sure if that's a foreshadowing of things to come......

...And I'm serious, that is their motto- look it up!
Well obviously if it's their motto, they're going to follow it. Wal-Mart follows theirs: "Save Money, Live Better", not including the common amendment "Whatever the cost."

I think the scary part is also that even if you trust
Google and its present leadership now, its a corporation
shareholder profit aside its very possible that it could change
leadership/ownership eventually and have its massive informational assets passed to others.

That and I think product quality is a different issue
from trusting someone with large amounts personal info.

do i use them? yes. its not like any other search engine can even compare to them.

do i trust them? no. i don?t trust anyone who is dedicated to collecting information about me. especially if they are doing so purely to get better at parting me from my cash. Plus they basically know about every product whim and random thought I?ve googled over the last 7 odd years. That?s just creepy and wrong.

im aware that you can turn off google?s cookies to stop them colleting info on you. but the price you pay is that google basically stops working.

I like you!
The feeling is mutual. :)
Even though I paid for my laptop, I have to share it with my family. No matter what I say, no matter what I do (I even hide windows explorer from the program list), they still look for it and use that CPU hogging peice of CRAP!

For me lets put it this way. If they start dabbling in PCs and printers etc i'll turn a warning light on and keep an eye out for them. For now though i think its all cool.

Oh and @ jamanticus : true dont be evil is their first rule but did you know that they aim to buy iceland? =P

Btw the story of how that dont be evil rule came about.
One of the admin staff was putting up all the rules for the office one day cause they decided its time to put some rules in place as a guideline. And then as this staff was writing down all the rules, this engineer said " hey all of those rules can be fit into one rule. Dont be evil " and he went on to make the admin write that down and printed copies of it pasting it all over the google building.

Friend who works at google told me that ( and he was one of the first employees so he witnessed that =P )

Well, look at it this way. If you don't trust the search engines, you could always manually search every website on the internet looking for what you want. When I put it like that, we aren't given very much choice now, are we?

One day, people will realise that because the messiah is not coming, they will need to build their own in order to exercise control over the populace. Toward that end, a genetically superior person will be created, who will have the looks of Brad Pitt, the tech-savvy flair of Steve Jobs, the brain of Stephen Hawking, and the ability to wail on a guitar like James Hetfield. I suspect that Google may have already begun this process.

Google Übermensch, coming soon.

Do I trust google? Not really. But I trust humans to be jealous of those who succeed. And I've yet to see an outlet for said jealousy. Hence, Google is, thus far anyway, not given something visceral to hate.

I have mixed feelings about Google. I use their search engine, purely because its the simplest, all the clutter of other search engines gets on my nerves.
I also use Gmail, which like others have said is by far the best email I have ever used, so I am grateful to them for that.

Here comes the but.
I don't like the idea of anyone have collosal amounts of information on me. It just feels wrong. I feel I have a right to my privacy. However, without this information Google becomes far less useful, and its not like they are the only people constantly getting data on me, MS and other companies do it too.

It still creeps me out that my internet life is in a database somewhere, but its not like I can stop it, and as long as it isn't abused, I'm fine with it.

This hasn't really answered the question...
I guess I trust them. Though its not a solid trust, its an "I've got my eye on you incase you go evil on me" sort of trust :p

When you say its the best, does that include everything? Security, speed etc? Or is it just cool looks and shit?
