I used to use them a lot when I was little not just to help me out, but also to look at too. Now-a-days, not so much since I can just use the internet to find information.

Of course right now, I'm playing through Ocarina of Time and I'm using a guide I had lying around for a while for whenever I get stuck or I need to find heart pieces.

Same here.
I like strategy guides but not for playing the game.
I usually pick them up for really cheap after I'm done playing and mostly use them for bathroom reading.

Like others have commented I use strategy guides to help whenever I am stuck on a game or after a playthrough or two so I can find all the little hidden perks. Lets be honest, no-one likes a game when they are sitting there ripping their hair out trying to figure out how to get to the next step when they really have no idea.

Im rather strange i think, i dont buy strategy guides for the actual strategies etc, that kinda stuff i work out on my own but i like to buy them for all the lore and concept artwork they have in them.

Usually when im in the game im in the moment and im too busy gaming to want to read the lore so its nice to be able to read about it during times when im not able to game. I used to use game manuals in the same way (back in the days when game manuals were almost as think as a small book) but alas they just dont manuals like they used so strategy guides are the next best thing.

I'm sort of the same way. I kind of feel I have a "complete set", if I have the game, packaging, and strategy guide.

I use startergy guides as a last resort if I cannot find the way out of a level or to find the answer to a specific puzzle that I cannot pass. They are not really cheating unless they use glitches or bugs to bypass parts of the level or ruin the challenge of the game.

I like the novelty of them. I never use them but I have a few. (Mainly collector ones because I'm a sucker for hardcover fancy lookin' stuff)

The only time I use a guide (in this case a wiki) is for pokemon (bulbapedia) so that the first time I play I can figure out the earliest places to find the members of my team.

I only use actual strategy guide books when I can borrow them from one of my friends. Online ones I use them if I get stumped and have no idea what to do.

Yeah, same here.

Strategy guides can really ruin a game if you use them on your first playthrough but they're great for those obsessive compulsive tasks like shooting all those motherfucking pigeons.
