I read all that stuff you said about her. I'm definitely not interested in dating reality warpers and particularly not malevolent ones, despite what she'd do to me if she found out I said that.
Well it really depends what Lain we're talking about... Not all of Lain likes torture... The Lain that exists in the memory of herself is really just an awkward, withdrawn, computer bug who's also sort of a Daddy's girl...<.<
Edit: actually that's not quite right, the Lain that inhabits her ego and is present in the real world is an awkward, withdrawn, computer bug who's also sort of a daddy's girl...

The rule still applies: I don't go out with reality warpers. Hell, even though I know she'd probably go psycho, I'd turn down Yukari Yakumo.
But she's a very neutral reality warper... she never uses it for any kind of real gain or to smite her foes, she's more or less just trying to understand herself and find her place in the world... and as an omnipresent Deus she really just takes the stalker role... she doesn't want to hurt anyone in fact she deletes her self from the real world just because she made her best friend cry...<.<
Well, in that case, it would be kind of hard for me to date her, wouldn't it? If she doesn't even exist in the real world any more...
Well that really depends... as the information used to open the hole in the IP7 she can freely move information between the real world and the wired meaning she has influence over information in the real world meaning she can materialize in the real world anytime she wants by altering the memories of other people to verify her existence in the world thereby giving her an ego at a lesser evolved plain...<.<

Hmm... I've given up on a ridiculous number of things after 1 or 2 episodes, like Friendship is Magic (couldn't put up with Twilight's bull), Infinite Stratos (just not interested, and Ichika is a Marty Stu), Evangelion (didn't own anything after the first eight episodes), Castle (after one season, and I don't even know why)... So what's the show even about?

Also, for some reason, even in the opening Lain is drawn completely differently to the background. That's kind of cut-rate, no?

Well they had a budget roughly half the size of you're average 6 episode anime series and they had to split it between two shows and a game so it is low budget... excuse my language but the art style is **** guzzling awesome... it's bleak over exposed feel really gives it a great feeling of surrealism along with it's use of colors and light to create shapes and textures but on the other hand it really brings across a very cyberpunk feel when it needs too with it's design for things like computers and electronics and how they fit into the world... along with that it had amazing sound direction, while it had a small soundtrack only 11 tracks, it uses each of them in such a way to really hammer away the tone and feel of each scene and to improve the overall surreal feel of the show but it rarely uses them so a lot of the time it successfully uses things like white noise and computer humming to enhance the mood...leet_x1337 said:
