Do you watch english language films (or your native language) with subtitles?

I tend to have a script with me at all times when I watch movies at home, so I don't need subtitles. Is that weird?

When questioned, the three said that while they don't need the subtitles all the time, they often find a brief scene or line of dialog can't be understood unless the subtitles are active. They also revealed that they have trouble understanding the speech of certain actors, though strangely they all disagreed about the actors they found difficult to understand.
So I ask you all, do you often need subtitles to understand films spoken in your native language?

So often that Subtitles On in the default setting on my Hulu Plus.

I use subtitles constantly for several reasons.

1) My hearing kind of sucks. I can hear volume just fine, but detail tends to get lost. So, when someone speaks to me, sometimes I have to ask them to repeat, not louder, but better enunciated. I also have a problem making out song lyrics.

2) Sometimes I like to watch TV while my kid is taking a nap. I have to turn the volume way down. This, combined with the above, means that the only way for me to clearly understand what people are saying is subtitles.

3) There are actors - and just shows in general - where lines tend to get mumbled or whispered - or the show is just badly mixed. Subtitles let me understand even if the actors are muttering their lines.

I'll gladly take well-made Finnish subs to all movies that aren't in Finnish. That's the setup I've grown with so it's the one I want. I take English subs if Finnish ones aren't available. It might get tiresome to watch a feature length English language movie without subs as I have to focus more on listening to the dialogue.

No subs for anything in my native Finnish. Sometimes I like to mix it up and turn either the dialogue or subs to French.

It's useful when I'm not giving the movie/show my full attention, but otherwise no. Sometimes though I'll turn on English subtitles to see how they translated the local slang and have a laugh.

I would never need subtitles for my native language (Russian), but that's mostly because of phonetics of Russian language.

Not that they exist anyway. I'd love to watch Russian movies with Russian subtitles, as it's the best way to learn a language (it's how I learned English), but I haven't yet found a single DVD that had them. So I understand one out of five words and learn nothing.

No. I can't concentrate on the film with writing at the bottom and I end up missing all the action.

Depends on the movie.

Something drama/comedy based or a little more slow, and on go the subtitles.

If it's an action or a more attention grabbing horror, the dub is the choice.

Granted, I do sometimes feel I could be missing some of the expression in the acting, given constantly glancing away to read, but for the most part it seems to be a non issue.
