Whistling is one of the most annoying sounds to me but maybe I'm just jealous because I can't whistle :(.

I can't whistle, but I would if I could! I'm always trying now and then, but at 25 I'm pretty sure I'm just incapable of doing it. I'm guessing it might be something to do with my face being a bit less symmetrical than average or something.

It annoys me when people just assume that everybody can do it and think that I've never really tried. I bet I've tried whistling more often than most people who can actually do it, and I've tried everything that people have said to try.

I can make numerous noises and voices though, so I do that instead of whistling. People don't appreciate that as much in public though, for some reason.

If I feel happy and there's no-one around, or I'm around people I like and know they won't mind. It's like singing in that regard.

Most of the time, at least in public, I'd feel way too self-conscious though.

I can't whistle, only one in my family as far as I know who cannot but I have literally tried since I was a toddler and I cannot. Even went on the internets and tried to look up how to guides, no dice. Really wish I could because when I learned I could make a bone breaking sound with my tongue I spent the rest of that decade doing it as much as possible with varying levels of success and humor.

Believe it or not, up until fairly recently there was a common belief that not being able to whistle somehow equated to homosexuality. For some reason.
Yup it was made up by Iam Flemming i think in one of his Bond books. Wouldntve thought it was a mainstream belief though.

OT... On occasion, yes. sometimes when trying not look guilty (classic styley) sometimes when trying to look busy. Almost always when nervous socially. Weirdly it is never an existing tune though. Just whistle improve. heh!

I whistle. I also commonly whistle Ocarina of Time songs.
I whistle the clock town theme and still alive from portal all the time. Most of the time because they're stuck in my head.

I couldn't whistle as a kid.
As in, at all, I barely managed to produce a weird 'pfffft' sound.

Then few years ago I tried it, and suddenly I was actually pretty good at it?
Maybe I sold my soul for a whistling talent that one time I was high on pain medication.

I can whistle songs, but I tend to go off key if I'm recalling the song by memory. The only song I can do without the listening to the music track is "Life is Beautiful" from Deadly Premonition..........

All the time. I'll often have some random tune (usually some catchy game tune or something) just sort of pop into my head, which in turn invariably leads to me whistling it aloud. At times, whistling it at embarrassingly loud levels.

Do you often hear whistlers whistling their little tunes?
Almost never. In fact, I've gotten odd looks and stares when I start whistling in public.

It's almost like the world decided it had to be miserable, therefore no one can have fun. Certainly not in public.

I can't whistle. If you make fun of me because of that, I'll pull out my survival whistle and blow your eardrums out.

I say screw the world! I'll whistle whenever I damn well please! Lets go against the flow! Happy whistlers unite! We will rule the world with our catchy tunes!

Hmm. Sometimes when I'm listening to pagan folk music I might whistle along to a melody, particularly if it's by a flute, but I really suck at it. Other than that, nah.

I whistle pretty much constantly when I'm walking around and I have something on my mind. Usually 50/50 between music from GBA games and random progressions of notes that just happen to feel right. It's a habit I picked up from my dad as a kid ^.^ makes it easy for people to tell when you're coming, too.

Yes! Let's do this!

At least...until someone calls the cops, citing us for "disturbing the peace".

Then we can whistle the theme to Cops while they drag us away.

Well I'm 31, and only 'learned' to whistle last month. And since then I've been practicing on and off, mostly in my car though where I won't bother anyone. Having played drums since I was 6 though has made me more of a finger drummer as I try to ingrain beats in my head while I'm not doing anything.

At the moment my whistling is mostly single pitch, I can hit two notes sometimes, so in the end it's more "rhythmic" whistling anyway. Used to annoy me, but the only real practical use I found for it is for calling my aging dog who doesn't respond to his name or finger snaps anymore, coz he's nearly deaf!
