I'm going to blame the BBC's advertisement, Or lack thereof. I'm a big Whovian and I only knew it was on because I'm a member of Gallifreybase, which had banners everywhere reminding me. Other than that, I wouldn't have a clue. No actors doing the rounds on chat shows, side of bus ads or anything.

Heck I didn't even know it was a two parter, which made me nerd rage when I heard the credits sting.

Don't know if it's been mentioned either, but the series had a similar problem last year. More people are getting sky+, virgin media, TiVoish boxes, plus the BBC iplayer lets you catch up at your own leisure. The Eleventh Hour had "bad ratings" but was the most downloaded/requested show in iplayer history.

The second part of this series which will be shown in the autumn/winter should fare significantly better ratings wise.

Amy. Definitely Amy's fault.
Don't ask me why, it's not a baseless accusation if I have to find a reason!

Now could we please move on to a better topic? I like my muffins with little chocolate chip bits in them.

Also, Paul Bunyan was originally a French Canadian folk hero anyway.
My history is pretty rubbish. Ok, a black Elvis.

...seriously? People are getting upset because of the five freakin' minutes they've done in America to the show
Nope, it's just one of our buttons. Given Saving Private Ryan, Robin Hood etc. we're very defensive of our way of life
(and, while saying this, I'm aware of the TV Movie, let's not bring that any further into the conversation)?
Pity, as I really enjoyed the TV movie when I got over my initial reaction.

Believe me, I'm possibly one of Moffat's greatest supporters - and RTD's haters - but this episode seemed lacklustre. I'm personally leaning towards the idea that "The Silence" breaks TV rules by turning main characters into mooks - but we'll see what happens.

I agree with the lack of advertising over here. The teaser trailers all said "coming soon" until about the Friday -- when it suddenly changed to "Saturday", causing much surprise in our household as we all thought it was starting NEXT week...
And who decided 6.00 was a good time? 7.00 please!

I've never been interested in doctor who, after watching the first series on TV when the second series started I realised that it's so unbelievably predictable why bother watching?

£500 says the reason it was rated so high in the US was because it was based in the US. Yanks take nationa... erm... "patriotism" to new extremes =p
More extremist than the Brits and the BNP? Doesn't the "N" in "BNP" stand for "nationalist?" At least the Yanks don't have a major political party proudly founded on the principles of racism and xenophobia.

Can you really compare Robin Hood to this? I'm whole convinced that Kevin Costner wasn't even trying, evidence by how he attempted to convince us that Minnesota accents existed during the freakin' Crusades...

I liked the movie myself. McGann did an excellent job given what he had to work with (I mean, Eric Roberts? Ugh...) And the half-human thing I can either take or leave, since it really adds or takes anything away from the character of the Doctor (Obviously, the new show's swept this under the rug, but like I said, can take or leave). But before I get stoned by the fanbase, I had best stop with the blasphemy.

And RTD did two good things - brought back the show, and then cast David Tennant when Eccleston left. And I agree, the episode was not up to snuff. Usually we're given some substance in the first part, but Moffat pretty much did the writing equivalent of walking up and smacking us over the head with a tire iron. I just hope it gets better as it goes on. I'd really like to know what the hell is going on.

I watch all my BBC shows on iplayer. I wonder if thats the problem?
This, I tend to be in work whenever anything worth watching is on the TV so now I just default to download.

Neither do the British (Well, apart from the Tories)

Also, KKK/Tea Party.
The KKK is a major political party? When was the last time the KKK ran a candidate for public office? And the Tea Bag party is based on the reduction of Big Government and federal deficits more than anything else.

I like the idea and look of the alien in the new episode and I'm excited for the rest of the season. I haven't seen any show that I would want to watch on a weekly basis besides Dr. Who.

The BNP is a fringe party (see: unimportant), and despite the name, they are in fact closer to a fascist party.

We only have 2 major parties - 3 at a push - and believe me, the BNP is not one of them.

While the figures seem a little bleak, at least on the Eastern side of the Atlantic, it's worth noting that not only was it a four-day weekend in the UK, but it was also very warm and sunny. It's quite likely that a lot of people decided to stay out in the sun, or were simply making good use of the long weekend and good weather by taking a weekend break. It will be interesting to see exactly how the figures change when the iPlayer and DVR numbers are in. While they might not beat previous year's viewing totals, they'll probably be much closer.
It's also worth mentioning that due to the royal wedding, a lot of people in the UK are taking vacations for two reasons: Escape the tourists, and because they can get eleven days worth of vacation while only loosing 3 days pay. Pretty stellar opportunity if you ask me. That was all from NPR, but whatever, it just goes to show that people haven't abandoned who in the UK...they've just likely abandoned UK for better beaches!

I watched it on iPlayer live (gotta love BBC for that), and I must say one thing that does irritate me:-

Please just have a different 'intensity' music track every so often.
