Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock Trailer Replete with Scary Monsters

If this trailer is anything to go by, The Eternity Clock will be all about running away from your favorite creepy-looking monsters at speed.

The Eleventh Doctor, much like the Tenth before him, could be described as having a penchant for running. And why not? On an average day the poor traverser of all time and space tends to find himself being pursued by all manner of scary things. In The Eternity Clock [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.331666-Hello-Sweetie-BBC-Reveals-Dr-Who-Game-for-PC-and-PS3], he and River Song will be running from four of his deadliest foes - the Cybermen, Silence, Silurians and Daleks - on PSN and Vita from March 2012, and on PC shortly thereafter.

Writing on the PlayStation blog, the BBC's executive producer for the project, Simon Harris, described how "[artistic] accuracy is essential" to the project. This extends all the way down to the monsters which will feature in the game, with various designs and animations spending their time being checked and retouched by teams from BBC Worldwide, BBC London, BBC Wales, and Supermassive Games, the developer.

Despite this attention to detail, however, some of the artists who work on the televised Doctor Who saw the game as an opportunity to modify and improve the enemies beyond what can be achieved on television. Thanks to this, there are a few subtle design differences in each enemy in the game. Harris invites "eagle-eyed" trailer-watchers to let the team know what differences they've noticed on the game's official Twitter feed [https://twitter.com/#!/DoctorWhoTEC].

Harris also revealed that the Silence didn't feature in the earliest drafts of the game, and replaced another kind of monster when they were added. While Harris didn't detail which species it was that got shoved out, he did say that he can "promise it will make [an] appearance in a future game."

As far as the enemies go, the production teams have chosen a pretty solid bunch, with the Cybermen and Daleks handling the robotic, slow-moving scary things shift while the Silence and Silurians handle the organic, nimble, and also way creepy aspects. Thank the gods of BBC Wales that the Weeping Angels are (ostensibly) absent from this venture.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be released in the UK and US on PSN and Vita in March 2012, and shortly thereafter on PC.

Heh, there was/is a minecraft mod that puts the weeping angels in the game. Absolutely bloody terrifying.

AWWWWW YEEAAAAAAH!!

I'm actually kind of glad that the Weeping Angels are not in this game, but at the same time it could've been a lot of fun, or frustrating, having them in the game.

And hooray for River Song! I like her.

"Hey look, there's the Silence over the..."

"What?"

"No idea...let's go this way"

Interesting. Probably the Weeping Angels that were removed though. You HAVE to look at them and the Silence or bad things happen.

Pity they didn't replace River Bloody Song with them though...*shudders* Moffat, I do love your episodes but some of your starring characters are the bloody pits.

I wonder how the silence work from a mechanical point of view - You can't very well have the player forgetting about them. Would they just turn invisible whenever the character looks away or something?

So it's a 2D side scroller by the looks of it? Hmm not sure about that. I was expecting a 3rd person game like the Adventure Games.

Also I wonder if this story will be canon like the Adventure games stories?

I dont get it. I only saw three of the doctors enemies in the video. who's the fourth?
All the win for this post.

OT: Well that looks interesting. Almost like a version of the Adventure games with a decent budget.

I guess you could call it the Eleventh's Hour.
Fixed it for you. They already called the first episode of season 5 'The Eleventh Hour' so I'm thinking that they're gonna want to wait before using that one again.

OT: This looks great, I'm definitely gonna be keeping an eye on this.

Hrm... I'm curious as to how much will be the actiony-stealthy stuff we see here and how much will be the timey-wimey puzzley stuff that was hinted at previously. Either way, as long as it's well done, I win.

Silurians, The Silence, Cybermen and Daleks... that's four. Unless you don't count the Silurians, Your Mileage May Vary on their status as enemies.

Yeah River isn't my favourite, but better than Amy (Is it just me who has noticed Karen is a bad actor?).

Looks like a fun game, haven't played a side-scroller since I downloaded that one Yahtzee made. Kinda looking forward to this one.

Now What's wrong with River? She's only about as arrogant as her hubby but she's also got a decent scene of humor. Plus she has two things he'll never have...

A gun and hallucinogenic lipstick.
Like Captain Jack, she's one of these characters brought in that's better than the Doctor in almost every way apart from having a certain flaw. This makes every episode that they appear in to just be a smarm race between them, leaving everyone else behind - including the audience.

I'm not sure if it's just Alex Kingston hamming for Britain but there's no real depth to the characters apart from their "character depth scene". Rory, Amy, The Sontaran Nurse, The Victorian Silurian woman... they all get who they are in one scene and run with it.

River Song/Captain Jack seem to have been misinformed that this is a panto, apart from when they pull out their teenage problem diary to weep into.

If you're a heel - sure, turn the ham to 11. But if you're a face, you're meant to be a viewer receptacle. Not suddenly better than the Doctor. (Also see Rose)

Yeah, but it's Simon and Lewis' commentary that make it so enjoyable:

For what it's worth, I love both River and Alex Kingston (ever since she was in ER. Corday bloody rocks!!!) Although I do admit she can be a bit OTT sometimes. Must get it from her mother (heh.)

Never really been a fan of the Dr Who games, but what I will say is that those chanting kiddy voices seriously scare seven shades of shit out of me. Unbelievably creepy!!
