In the last six months I've been spending a lot of time in different Doctor's waiting rooms, my GP, ophthalmologist, Neurologists, blood taking vampire people, x-ray/mri people, etc.

And I've come to the conclusion that the people who running those places are totally sexist... they hate men.

Apart from one National Geographic from 1999 everything you could possibly read is totally aimed at "women" and when I say "women" I mean the type of female human that reads celebrity/royal gossip with a side dose of diet plans.

I've been reduced to reading the little support group pamphlets to stave off death by boredom.

So why??? Apart from a handful of specialists most doctors will see a rough 50/50 split on the gender, so why is it they totally ignore men and well smart women with their magazines?

Maybe because they realize the smart ones won't touch such filth and bacteria ridden things.

I dunno. The place I go usually has Motor Trend, Sports Illustrated, Time, and only a few women's magazines.

Because the only thing worse than the vapid gossiping and nonsensical advice of womens magazines is the offensively idiotic tripe in mens magazines. Just bring a book or an mp3 player. I'm pretty sure the only reason doctors keep those magazines around is as a litmus test to determine which patients they don't really need to try hard to save.

^ I was going to agree, but that's a pretty good point. My dentist's office has a ton of National Geographics magazines, as well as photography and painting books (not an art student, I don't know the proper name for them.)

I can't speak for all waiting rooms of course, but in some of the ones I've been to, the staff doesn't even keep track of what magazines are there. It's the magazine publishers who bring in the material, which means it's an advertising department that decides what you can pick from. And advertisers are anything but willing to generalize.

That said, aren't the majority of commercial magazines (those being the ones you can buy at the supermarket & corner store, rather than needing to subscribe to them) nothing but celebrity gossip, weight loss & financial "tips" anyway? I'm not an aficionado, but that's the only kind I ever see.

cause women have short attention spans and need to be entertained with gossip every five minutes or they fall asleep.

maybe its cause the receptionists bring in their old magazines and most receptionist i see are female

You actually read those things? You do realize how many germs are on them right?

My doctor has FHM lying in the waiting room, as well as magazines about cars, interior design and tabloids. A mixed bag suitable for anyone. You need to find yourself a better physician my friend.

I can't speak for all men, but when I go to a doctors office, i don't read the magazines. I think us guys enjoy just shutting our minds off now and then, we don't always need to be doing something.

Maybe because they realize that people who think you are either a man, smart woman, or dumb woman, and lump the former 2 together, don't deserve the privledge of magazines.

See, THIS is why I take my DS everywhere! :p

In fact, the doc probably assumes all males will have some portable gaming device, hence why they only provide pastimes for females.
