I've only played the "classic" free version. I tried to buy the beta, but it asked for my social security number, and I'm just a little suspicious.

Hell, as long as I'm here, anyone know why it's asking for social security number?
LOL. that's a scam. Only buy it from Minecraft.net. It will NOT ask you for your social security number. Kudos for you for being on your toes though and not giving it out.
Yeah, that's the thing. I AM buying from Minecraft.net. I log in, I accept the terms, fill out the normal info, and click "pay now". Then I get redirected to some page asking for my social security number. To be fair, it LOOKS like it's actually my bank asking for it. (The logo is at the top of the page) but...You know, it's my social security number.
That'd be a Pharm, the lesser known brother of phishing. I assume that your actually getting redirected to a fake site that is replicated to look mostly authentic. I used PayPal to pay for the game, so uh that worked for me.

OT; Could be an interesting preview of what's to come, and how Notch decides what to implement.

I always think Markus looks like a big, cuddly millionaire teddy bear.

OT: I hope the truth is deeply disturbing and there is a part where they reveal the terrifying method behind minecraft.
The Creepers... what are they?

I'd watch it. I don't even know what the Minecraft guy looks like. A game as crack-like as Minecraft should have an interesting back story.

I'm confused. The phrase "Expose the truth behind Minecraft" leads me to believe I should be getting out my tinfoil hat, but is it just a "behind the scenes" thing?
That's exactly how I felt about it. I was really hoping it would be some right-wing nutjobs trying to prove that Notch is out to get America or something somehow. To be fair, left-wing nutjobs would also have been entertianing, but now it's neither. I would so have loved to see that, too.

Actually, I'd be surprised if there's anything to tell. Notch had this idea for a game and he went out and did it, and it was unexpectedly popular. It's not like he sold his house to raise money or invented something. It's mostly going to be trivia, like how the Creeper is a failed model for something else and why the day/night cycles work the way they do and why he made it low-res. Probably no depth, but I'd still like to see him try to remember what inspired him to this, that, and the other thing.

Hope it shows why there is so little progress xD
You mean aside from the wedding, paypal fucking him over, moving, setting up a company, hiring people, dealing with the ddos attack, other hackers, other project, holiday season and the game becoming exponentially more complex?

I can agree with this, but look how fast the game grew. With that much growth and profit there should definitly have been more added to the game, the guy is all but set for life now. adding cake and calling it a major update isn't really my idea of progress.

Pfft. Everyone knows Minecraft Wiki is a front for the evil Mojang conspiracy. No, we need to get to the heart of the issue. What is Notch trying to hide?

OK, so if it IS fake, then how do I buy the game? Every time I try, it redirects me to that page, and I know I haven't already bought it because I downloaded the beta, and it won't let me actually play it until I pay for it.

I've been avoiding everything related to Minecraft. Maybe a documentary on its creators will be the catalyst of change.
I don't even know you anymore...

Hell, as long as I'm here, anyone know why it's asking for social security number?

EDIT: Question has been answered, thanks to anyone who replied.
