does 2012 have any relevance in Christianity?

Traditional Christian texts maintain the world will end at the Second Coming of the Christ. In the Bible, some passages say the date of the end is literally unknowable, and others provide only vague prescriptions for the conditions that must exist before Jesus' return. The result of this vagueness is that Christians have been predicting the End of Days on every single day for two thousand years. Some of the early Christians even seemed to take for granted it would happen in their lifetimes.

I'm not sure I believe in a deity, but if He's up there, I don't see the Christian End of Days as something to fear, despite the very questionable account of violence in the book of Revelations.

I think some Christians think that it IS when Jesus will return. They might have their brains warped from all the 2012 paranoia.
As for me, I don't know when Jesus will return, but I don't think it will be in 2012. However, if it somehow is, I will try to be prepared.
i haven't heard this whole return of Christ stuff. if any Christians are saying this their a minority. the bible states clearly that no man shall know the time or day of Christs return.
Yesssssssss this is true.
nice name btw.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
the only relevance 2012 has to christians is christians are constantly waiting for the end of the world, you will hardly get past and 10 year period without some sect of religion saying the world is going to end in that time and putting everything they have into it, hell its one of religions long running traditions

Here's my thoughts on the thing.
It won't be in 2012, it will be sooner. Why? Leap days. No doubt the Aztecs knew about the whole rotation and revolution of the Earth around the Sun, like all pre Dark Ages cultures they knew their shit. What they couldn't have known however, was that the Dark Ages buggered everything about how they would've told time up, and sometime after that we added our Leap Years. I am not at all sure when we added them in, but unless someone did some date buggering we're not going to have an apocalypse on that day.
And as far as I know, 2012 has no relevence to any of my Christian friends.

ya this was established as doomsday before christianity came to the other part of the world(north and south america).all Aztec calenders(to my knowledge)end at 2012.then theres this whole science thing blah blah blah world ending all life destroyed blah blah blah yada yada yada and we all die
Mayan calender not Aztec. Completely different culture. Secondly, the calender 2012 is supposed to be a beginning of the 5th world which happens to be an age of enlightenment, as most scholars believe. But the main reason that doomsday is wrong, is simply because the man who created misinterpreted the calender and completely screwed the date up.

The digit sum of 2012 is 5. May is the 5th month. May shares two letters in common with March. March would have been the month Jesus Christ would have been conceived in had he been human. I actually was conceived on or around March 25, approximately 9 months before December 25th, when I was expected to be born. However, I was born 4 days late. In certain Asian countries, Japan for example, the word for the number 4 is the same as the word for death. This same word begins and ends many other words (because it's basically a letter), and relates to things like actions and divinities. In fact, the Japanese approximation of my name's meaning would begin with "shi", which is the aforementioned #4 and Death. #4 was a fat baseball player from One Piece with a gun that could turn into a dog. Coyote Stark from Bleach has guns that turn into a half-naked loli. Three girls get very Yuri in the ending of the Needless anime. The Needless manga has only 10 chapters translated on OneManga at the time of this writing. I have a tab of OneManga open right now.

I will be turning 23 in 2012, so Jim Carrey may or may not be involved. We won't know for a while.
This by far the best doomsday prophecy ever. You sir win 1 internets.

No. But some of the nutjob christians (I am not flaming christans. Just nutjobs that exist in every single walk of life) will no doubt claim it is when Jesus is returning. Just on the off chance that it is true they would hate for some one elses religion to get the credit.
Actually, if you were a real Christian you would know that the Bible says that we actually don't know when the world is going to end and none of us do. So it's really impossible to be both a Christian and believe this stuff as well.

Also, I am not a nutjob. I don't like being compared to the intolerant Christians that I share a religion with.

no the 2012 thing is Mayan and even then it's not that big of a deal, it's only a new epoch and nothing more. to put it into our terms, they are going to a new millennium, so their calendar is going from 2000 to 2001
