So according to both Yahtzee and the actual escapist review, this game sucks hairy blue hedghog ass. I havent played it myself but then I've never been a big sonic fan anyway, cant get past the dialogue. Even my friend who loves sonic thinks its pretty awful, and this is a guy who actually tried to defend sonic shuffle...

So my question is, did anyone acually like this game? does anyone feel that maybe some of this wrath is unmerrited? does anyone have the balls to actually try defending it?

Or is everyone right and its just another in the long line of obnoxios, ninties attitude, hair gel infused crap we've come to expect from sonic?

Seriously, did anyone like it?

I haven't played it, but I kinda want to give it a try just to find that out. From what I've seen, I'm one of the least pickiest gamers on the Escapist (I loved Assassin's Creed AND Halo 3, and I'm glad to admit it!)

If I ever get the chance to try it out, I'll send a word your way about whether it deserves all the crap.

Thread belongs in Gaming Discussion (/mini-mod), but I think Yahtzee's right. Stick a fork in Sonic, he's done.

Only good part I would consider from this game which is a small fraction of the game that rarely comes around often and that is the day time levels with Sonic. But you get to rarely play these and they dont last very long.

Sonic is a dead franchise, the only way il be truely satisfied is if they make a 2D Sonic game again with some decent graphics and lots of levels. That will make me happy.

Im suprised Yahtzee didnt mention about the horendous camera angles

I haven't actually played the game, but I haven't liked a one since Sonic Adventure.

Since Sonic games are about running fast and collecting rings and beating bosses in three hits, I can't imagine the storyline of Unleashed is compelling, regardless of gameplay mechanics, simply because it contains a story. Supposedly.

Not to mention that Sonic games haven't been about running fast and collecting rings and beating bosses in three hits since Sonic's campaign in Sonic Adventure.

I like the demo more than every bit of Sonic The Hedgehog for the 360 if that helps at all. I won't really be able to defend the game personally until I get and play it on Christmas, along with about 10 other games.

BTW I also like the demo more than SA2's sonic stages and SA1's sonic stages. In fact, the SA2 stages felt really slow after playing and speed running the hell out of it and getting 02:04:81. It's the best 3D sonic game, and the sonic stages are extremely fun if you can handle the speed and have the reflexes, otherwise it's just 3-8 minutes of torture and bullying (sounds like how Yahtzee described it).

I could no fewer than 4 people in this thread who think that quoting and/or referencing Yahtzee is an acceptable substitute for having something to SAY on a topic.

If you mean me, everything I said is from me. I had just watched it though, and it's basically what he said, making me to believe he doesn't play very well(if it's the 360 version). I'm going to run as fast as he can without boosting, picking every enemy off one by one with homing attacks, and see what rank I get.

EDIT:Okay, while I didn't do the homing attacking of the robots when unneeded, I didn't boost once...and I got an A...*sigh* why the fake complaints. Is it that no one can actually come up with anything other than it's a rip off of something, it's not sonic, it's not classic sonic styled gameplay, or it's sonic so it has to be bad?

No, in fact, I didn't mean you, I counted four, not five.

^Okay, sorry for the misunderstanding then. Should have counted first...lol.

Okay, while I didn't do the homing attacking of the robots when unneeded like I said I would do, I didn't boost once from beginning to end...and I got an A Rank...*sigh* why the fake complaints? Is it that no one can actually come up with anything other than it's a rip off of something, it's not sonic, it's not classic sonic styled gameplay, or it's sonic so it has to be bad? All the hate this game is getting...even some people saying that it's worse than sonic 06 (nothing could beat that in suckage EVAR...I hope)...it's just annoying, because the game is a technical masterpiece and one of the best sonic games in 3D, yet it's shunned more than any other sonic game...I'm going to stop here.

Though I haven't played the game yet, it looks very appealing to me. I loved SA1 and kind of enjoyed SA2, so I certainly don't think a Sonic game has to be bad just because it's 3D. The argument that it's a game of trial-and-error because it's 3D is just crap. If you're running around in Sonic Rush it's also impossible to anticipate what will come next, so you often run into a wall and lose all of your speed.

This is one of the few Yahtzee reviews I dislike, because it seems as if he's extremely biased towards this game, simply because it's not 2D.

Sonic Team should simply make a Sonic game with no side-kicks ( - except for Tails and perhaps Knuckles, since both of them have been there since the first couple of games -) and with no silly levels like the ones where you have to collect fragments of the Master Emerald of stuff like that. It should only be about speed ( like the daytime levels in Sonic Unleashed ). No human characters, no useless 'town'. Just make a game that plays like Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic Chaos on the Mastersystem.
